Patton on yet another Zorn release?
No names mentioned, but I think this is pretty clear who this may consist of…
John Zorn: Moonchild [#7357]
Zorn’s newest project is a hardcore song cycle scored for voice, bass and drums. This powerful rock unit features three of his most illustrious, longtime cohorts who have worked together in bands such as Naked City, Fantomas, Mr. Bungle and Electric Masada and are keenly in tune with Zorn’s language and aesthetic. Musicians are always at their best in Zorn projects and Moonchild is no exception. You have never heard these players as up front, on the edge or as inspired as they are here, raging through eleven pieces of terrifying intensity. Drawing on preverbal language and the primal power of rock music, this is Torture Garden with an alchemical twist—spontaneous, complex and evocative. Eleven new Zorn compositions executed with a ritualistic passion that will take your breath away.

i need to listen first to pepping tom before have an opinion about this, that means this notice should be useful in may, after pepping tom release, but, i have no doubt if Vrresto is right about the players in moonchild, this must be interesting to hear then……………..by now,. lets wait for may to pass
March 1st, 2006 at 2:16 PM
Trevor Dunn mentions it on his website.
March 2nd, 2006 at 4:15 AM
Patton, Dunn and Baron? Sounds pretty badass; I wonder if it’s gonna sound like a hybrid between Fantômas and Naked City. Heheh, Pepping Tom…
March 3rd, 2006 at 5:45 AM
So, is John Zorn himself not appearing on this, or is he just writing the music for it?
March 4th, 2006 at 11:50 PM
I guess Zorn in moonchild is more like Dan Nakamura in Lovage…
March 6th, 2006 at 7:02 AM
RELEASE DATE: MAY 2007!!!!
Might aswell forget about it for the moment
Why would Tzadik bother giving the info this soon, or wait that long to release it even?
Feckin’ eejits!
March 6th, 2006 at 9:54 AM
Nah, I bet Tzadik have listed the incorrect release date, they’ve done it before. It’ll be coming sometime this year.
March 6th, 2006 at 1:56 PM
Moonchild should be out at the end of April… don’t know where that 2007 date came from, but it is wrong.
When Zorn spoke in Minneapolis a few weeks ago, he mentioned this project… he said something to the effect that he had it in his head to do another hardcore project, assembled the Patton/Dunn/Baron trio in the studio, and proceeded to throw ideas about melodies and attack methods before each piece was recorded – fresh off the top of Zorn’s head, fed through the filter of Patton/Dunn/Baron – and that each “piece” was recorded live, in one take… I think that he said 11 pieces total.
Zorn also said that he was already working on an idea for a longer, more “moody” piece for the same trio to work their magic on later in the year.
I know that I, for one, am psyched to hear Moonchild when it comes out.
March 6th, 2006 at 3:18 PM
I’m not so fond of these live-in-a-studio-one-take-only recordings, though. They seem to lack any kind of substance. I will, however, be checking it out.
March 6th, 2006 at 3:38 PM
Amazon.co.uk has the release date as April 18th.
March 9th, 2006 at 4:08 AM
Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Naked City apply the same live-studio-one-take method with their recordings, such as the brilliant Torture Garden? Certainly not a bad idea s’long as the execution is good.
Wohoo, if April 18th is definete I’m gonna lose my head! This year is getting better by the minute.

The same song (or maybe a different version) will be on the new Dub Trio cd and new Peeping Tom
March 22nd, 2006 at 7:27 AM
Thanks for this, I doubt I could’ve made it ’til May without hearing some of the upcoming Patton material! =) The track on the Peeping Tom album is tentatively titled “We’re Not Alone”, so perhaps the possibility of another version exists? The track does however contain the lyrics “…we’re not alone..”, so maybe it’s just the same track with slightly different names. It would be pretty strange to release the same song in 2 completely different albums within such a short time span, but ain’t really complaining; the very fact that the song plays as some of the ‘mainstreamest’ Patton track since FNM surprisingly refreshing! Apparently Dub Trio and Patton are considering a full album collaboration somewhere in the future, if you trust the short comment in the band’s allmusic.com biography. Rocksome, gonna have to loop this fucker ’til the end of May!
March 22nd, 2006 at 7:49 AM
Ok, after a quick browsing it seems that the Dub Trio track will be featured as a remix on the Peeping Tom album (mentioned at least in this link: http://www.speakeasypr.com/clientbio.php?client=70) What a treat!
March 22nd, 2006 at 12:30 PM
ok, so u guys say that this song is part of peeping tom?? right now am listening this linked song, long ago, i said to myself that i wouldn`t hear this new works of pattons that for me they seem more like improvisations, i really expected something different, i dont know, if we would have to compare this song with something that we already know i would say that it has some shades from tomahawk, and this makes me wonder: is the new tomahawk album be similar in some way to this type of songs??
anyway, i want this wait be over soon, i wanna have an opinion more based on the complete work
thx for the link 4degrees!!

I really need to listen this record, and of course peeping tom too….i’m waiting for something really new this time. all the last projects were amazing, but i would like to hear patton doing something totally different with the same energy that he had with faith no more.
a full record with dillinger escape plan (i know that’s not possible but…) would be very nice or a new tomahawk with new elements.
))).
