I believe that FNM are the best Patton band ever sang in, but I must admit I like Peeping Tom, more than Tomahawk and Fantomas, Patton’solo projects. Don’t know why, probably after the Rahzel/Patton gig I saw two years ago which I enjoyed very much despite I went there just to get out of town for a trip or I guess sometimes I need easy stuff…

well i havent had the chance to even listen to peeping tom. i am a long time listener of all the bands that stem from bungle, but i saw peeping on conan obrien and i didnt feel the urge to run out and buy the album. ive had friends say they like it. i still havent gotten it.
November 6th, 2006 at 12:55 PM
I like it. Previous post said some radio station has been playing Your Neighborhood Spaceman and it may be next single. This could mean a new bside perhaps.
November 7th, 2006 at 9:00 AM
Was there yesterday in LEUVEN!
Great gig, much better then @ Dour!
Pitty Mike Relm wasn’t there
Imani is a natural beauty
In 2 weeks we turn to the dark side with Moonchild…
It’s great to live in Belgium
November 7th, 2006 at 6:00 PM
why isnt We’re Not Alone (remix) the new single?!?!
it would be played like crazy!!!!!!!
at least xm radio plays the original version on dyb trio’s new cd from time to time…
“Our love is made like a starbucks chain… and we’re taking over this neighborhood!”
just a great song
November 8th, 2006 at 5:43 AM
Yeah best he’s released since Rape this Day. I didn’t know there was an original dub trio version _ I know they remixed it but sometimes tracks are just called (remix) and you never have the original released. Is it any good/better than the remix?
November 8th, 2006 at 6:15 AM
Yea the original is on Dub Trio’s New Heavy.
Its pretty close to the remix. The remix just added some more electronics.

Peeping tom? Not exactly what I would of hoped it to be. I like the demos better. Seriously. I like the demos better.

Anybody know the story with this song and video? Who is singing and is it really FNM?

MATIVS, I totally agree. The demos were better. esp the song now called 5 seconds.. Im a still going though, tonight! I could never miss a patton performance in my own tonw, no matter what he does.
November 10th, 2006 at 12:47 AM
patredux:
I don’t stories about the “I started a joke” video but it’s inside the first FNM collection (who cares a lot) and when I heard it first I doubt it was Patton on vocals too, but it’s him.
The other tune you mentioned is “another body murdered” from the o.s.t. “judgement night”, a weird series of rap/hip hop-metal/rock collaborations: House of Pain with Helmet, Slayer & Ice-T, Cypress Hill with Pearl Jam or with Sonic Youth, Faith No More & BOO-YAA. T.r.i.b.e., Living Colour & Run D.M.C. etc etc….it was 1993.
There is a video for the FNM tune. Mike is really there.

Honestly, WTF is he waiting for??, we all know it is time to do some serious bussiness, and i mean REAL music, not bullshit like ” the best song he has released since rape this day”, what the hell??, Mit Gas its alot more that rape this day you know??, easily is one of the best newest works that we can have from a band with Patton, you peeping tom fans really make me laugh, you really do, specially the guys that support any shit that Patton takes out, i bet if he comes back to the old school music, wich it is an slightly probable thing, most of you will throw the hairnet away, askin to yourselves what happened with the Patton that you used to know ??, but why he would do that right??, to dissapoint you guys who hear him since a couple of years, while the truth is that u feel that you know him since always and u know no shit about him, the coments here are from people similar to the teenangers that i usually hear, they just love anything that mike patton could do cuz a minutes before mojo sounded on the radio, it doesn´t even matter if it is true music or true trash, they see him like a neo-god or something, it is not about what does it mean real music from Patton anymore, this goes way beyond that…….
I used to know a couple of guys from here of the old school like me, they won my respect and simpathy a long time ago (people like mark bowen or Don) now they are gone, and i can´t blame them, maybe they realized as me that lately this place has changed too much, invaded by patton bitches everywhere. You the rest??, mostly people who wasn´t here by the time i started to post and share points of view with that kind of people, then the peeping tom´s fake appeared and with that an all new bunch of Patton bitches talkin nonesenses and making the big damn mistake of compare FNM or Tomahawk with this waste of time that goes by the name of peeping tom, truly, you can´t be serious comparin real music with this damn crap, WTF is wrong with u people……….
Say bye to the great, low profile and simple musician named mike patton, and say hi to the new one; commercial, porn-star and arrogant mike patton?? with you all screaming and bitchin around for mojo??? fuk-off, I DON¨T ACCEPT THIS SHIT, go away and take this mutated and horrible new patton´s fans way with u.

The “Joke” video I don’t like at all. It’s hardly uknown though.
No its not FNM! It is Patton singing though and when I first heard it I didn’t think it was him singing but it is.
For Another Bofy Murdered – I saw a similar thing on You Tube for Epic which I thought was really cool. Never seen an official FNM/Boo Yaa Tribe video for it. It was part of a film soundtrack for “Judgement Night” which I’ve never seen. Top top track though.
I’ll have to track down the PT demos cos they sound like they are more stripped down which for a couple of the tracks wouldn’t be a bad thing.

Well I’ve been researching the song ” I started a joke” because I just can’t believe that’s patton singing. There’s not one tone/note that resembles his voice, as universal as it is. I’ve been stumbling across a lot of old stuff that I’m sure some of you have already seen.
Here’s supposed to be a site with video of cortney love in FNM, but it only has pics as the vids are long gone when I clicked on them.
http://www.geocities.com/bigredkidney/
Also on the youtube site there’s a guy that says it’s nick cave siging it. But I can’t find any references to it on there. Is there proof that it’s mike singing it somewhere?

RaDiCal:
I want to restart this post as I did for another one: in my personal opinion FNM are the best band Patton ever sang in and they will probably remain my favorite rock band ever.
After saying that, I must admit I’m a bit tired of reading people blaming other fans just because the old Patton stuff does not exist anymore or because there tons of guys ready to following/adoring Mike in any of his new projects like hypnotized zombies. I mean, you have to deal with it, you can’t do that much you know.
I bought Peeping Tom four years after the first Tomahawk release (which I didn’t like and still don’t). I don’t like most of the post FNM Patton projects, though I still like his way of singing. That’s something that didn’t change which I will always love.
I understand also why some old users who have been following FNM, Bungle for a long time have left. This place has become “Patton Volante”, a place where mostly (if not only) Mike Patton posts are shown. Maybe because he was the most interesting FNM character, maybe because he’s the more active afte the split, I don’t know but that’s how it’s going now.
What can we do with it? Nothing I guess. Or writing other posts, not Patton-related. I can’t see any other way of getting rid of this situation.
I don’t like stupid fans as well, I’d like cool guys discussing about their favorite bands, exchanging interesting opinions and also weird jokes:-)
This “I started a joke” story is very appealing. I wasn’t sure Faith No More really had played it or Mike had sung it. Please if someone knows something, share it here. Very curious.

Seen the concert yesterday. Amazing. I underestimated Mike and Peeping Tom. The band was spectacular, Mike’s singing superb. Peeping Tom is Mike at his best, dancing, singing, joking, he was totally relaxed. Rahzel was impressive as was Ms Coppola. Hats off to the band!

Of course it is Mike Patton singing ‘I started a joke’. If you have ever saw or heard him singing it live the voice is unmistakable MP.
R.D,
What the fuck are you wittering about exactly?
November 11th, 2006 at 2:49 PM
Have some of you never seen FNM play “I started a joke” live?
It’s not an imposter singing! – just goes to show how versatile is.
Radicle you blinkered fuck wit just cos I’m saying “We’re not alone” is the best song he’s done since “Rape this Day” (in my opinion) doesn’t mean I’m saying the other songs on Mit GAs aren’t any good does it? They’re excellent. WHy did you think that? And why can’t you respect other’s opinions?
You’re a fuckin’ dick. So what if MP has fans you don’t like?
So fuckin what!
Welcome to kick off time again folks!
November 11th, 2006 at 7:54 PM
After watching a couple of live performances it’s easier to think that the studio version is Patton singing. But it’s still a nuance or more difference between them that has me wondering.
But I will say this, if that’s anything like what he plans for “italian” songs, we could be in for something spectacular…. all-be-it something not appreciated by RaDiCaL……… heheheh.
Hey I found a really cool vid on youtube……. any Rush fans out there?

For those of you interested in the setlist, Peeping Tom opened with “desperate situation”, the song from the demo that didnt find its way on the album, played of course the entire album, the bonus track “Pre School” (that sounded live so much more interesting then the download) and “110 street”, the jackie brown song, as encore

Amazing gig in Amsterdam. It was perfect! Great performance. Mike, Rahzel
and Imani and the others did a great job! Like Peter said it was Mike Patton at his best. I
totally agree! Very good live band!

Just came back home in Athens from Amsterdam, were we watched an amazing gig, i totally agree with the “peeping tom kicked ass” comment.
By the way Radical dude, you are such a narrow minded miserable idiot, it’s depressing and I can not even blame you.
November 12th, 2006 at 2:15 PM
Patredux,
The song at the end of the interview you posted is called ‘The World Is Yours’. It was unreleased for years but saw the light of day as part of the greatest hits collection. Good tune, would have made a decent b-side as opposed to the endless live cuts that were released with all the singles off Angel Dust. How many live versions of ‘We Care A Lot’ were officially released?

Yeahh, yeahh; “Patton volante”, that´s true, anyway, if u like cool guys discussing about their favorite bands, exchanging interesting opinions and also weird jokes, maybe as me, then i think that we are in the wrong place Stefano, u see, i can´t exchange a mere opinion with a Patton bitch, they think he´s a god, and i don´t, so i guess it´s not even worth it..
However, am pleased, for the first time, i get a realistic answer from an actual C.V fan, as i said, i don´t like that shit, but i respect what u think, we both know how this place has changed and what´s worse, how alot of people has changed with it, that gets close to what i think, to what this place has to show these days, it´s impressive………but sadly true………..
While only P.T-related news come across these days (like since boring months and months ago), i think i´ll wait until comes other kind of news, the ones that i really care or until more people like u or me comes back to stay for a while, i guess the second option its more unprobable than the first one, but anyway, why should i choose other people instead great and impartial fans like patredux or pope???……………jikes!!!, i think i won´t lie like this anymore….i could burn my hands for guys like this.
November 13th, 2006 at 5:27 AM
RaDiCal:
Thanks for your words. I’m just trying to see events from an objective point of view. I guess that regretting the good ol’ days of FNM & Bungle is as useless as idolatrating anything Patton does. Things change, people even more sometimes and there’s nothing we can do about it.
I must say I like Peeping Tom, that’s why I upped this post. I don’t care if most of the guys reading it are recent Patton fans who don’t know the whole history (if you’re young and you weren’t there when things happened it’s not your fault:-). It’s for who’s interested, no matter why, no matter how much.
My desire consists of not seeing useless quarrels on such a subjective topic: it’s a waste of time. But I guess it’s “utopia” maybe:-)

Well said Stefano,
If someone is not particurarly interested in the latest blog that has been posted, why go to the effort to personally attack anyone who has an opinion on the subject?
It just happens to be that Patton is the most productive of all the ex-FNM and Bungle members. Therefore, most blogs are going to be about him and especially PT. Go figure!
As far as I am aware Puffy Bordin seems to be happy doing the odd gig for the old mong that is Ozzy, Jim Martin is more interested in pumpkins than guitars, and erm, thats about it. If anyone (including you Radical) has any up to date info please feel free to share it with everyone, not just attack other bloggers.

Exactly how am I a patton noser here? I’ve been around since the early 90′s left for some 8-10 years and am back. I saw moonchild… did’nt like it all that much…. but I did’nt come on here distroying it either.
These old codgers can’t give up the ghost of the past…… living in the past is safe only if you live under a rock…. sooooo……. RaDiCaL.
I’ve also gone and got a ton of matterial that Patton has put out in the last 10 years, including the last 2 Bungle albums and FNM albums. And I’ve said repeatedly that Disco Volante is my favorite.
Anyway to each there own…. from all the matterial, there’s diffenitaly something for everybody.

Hey you all, what´s the big deal with this???, i feel free to criticize Peeping Tom fans, so what??, you seem to feel free to invade a conversation that am havin with someone else so don´t come with your shit that “yeahh, he never looks back, always forward, that´s great” and that kind of cheap crap, specially the ones that come from old school music, wich i see not many of u are, and i insist in this thing cuz i can´t understand the people who can listen FNM and this thing at the same time, for me it can´t even be compared one thing with the other one, it doesn´t match and it will never match anyway, can´t you get it yet??, now if you feel that i am insultin you, i guess u should think about it twice before write anything up here, if any of u feel identifided with what i had to say last time, then maybe you are the kind of people that am afraid it exist in this place already; no more, no less than a Patton bitch……………and believe me, i choose a thousand of times to live in the past hoping for one day to my favorite band to rejoin and kick out the world again…that sell ur damn soul to the new extravagant and experimental pop-hip -hop, hip-plop or waterever you call this thing, be from one way, and then later change the concept of M.P music cuz suposedly “he is looking forward”, Jesus what a shit, it really makes me sick. Am not saying the changes are that bad, some changes are good, some others don´t, but definitly this one lacks of something that makes it worth it, and i know that u know it´s true, even if you doesn´t want to acknowledge the fact that the original M.P is missing the way, and since this new P.T´s hairnet fashion came to this place, u seem to be in the same way…
I say it again, wanna be that way??, i don´t give a damn, just don´t mess with my posts, specially when am not talkin to any of you, what we talked with Stefano it´s something that you´ll never dig anyway, so don´t try to analize or let flow your instincts here, cuz you´ll get to nowhere.

By the way – that whole “Was that Patton singing on I Started A Joke?” just seems dumb to me.
Ohh and I was into Mike Patton before any of you!!! hahaha that should get the bitches typing.
November 14th, 2006 at 6:45 AM
I may be in the minority of one here, but personally I love the idea of Mike Patton terrorizing the mainstream again, just like when FNM were at the height of their power. Hark back to when they were riding high in the charts with ‘Easy’ and it was included as an extra track on a re-issued ‘Angel Dust’, and think of all the gullible chart kids and housewives who would have been fans of the version and buying said album being met with a barrage of ‘Malpractice’ or ‘Crack Hitler’. Makes me smile anyway!
Sure, Mike Patton could remain on the fringes as a credible underground artist (which he always will be), but it is great to hear him on mainstream radio and TV again to brighten up the banality that exists.
Mark Bowen,
So you’ve been “into” Mike Patton for years then? Is that from behind? (That would certainly explain his vocal screeches)

U see now Stefano??, this are the bitches that i am talking about, no more……..no less, just bitches, anyway, am tired, by now, let´s just leave them be, go on, act like crybabies, i won´t try to do anything about that, i don´t give a damn………….

The “I Started A Joke” Thing…. they played it live on the King For A Day and Album Of The Year Tours. The song was the 1 of the only 2 songs they recorded with Dean Menta, the other was “Greenfields” and they were recorded in Billys basement if I remember correctly which will explain the drop in production quality. Thinking back now I think “I Wanna Fuck Myself” and “Spanish Eyes” may also have Dean playing on them but I’m not sure. (BTW ISAJ and GF were Bsides to one of the Digging the Grave CD singles – the other being Absolute Zero)

That is correct, from the 5 five songs of “king for a day B-sides” 4 of them were played by Dean Menta; “i wanna f**ck myself, greenfields, i started a joke and spanish eyes”.
The other one, “absolute zero” was performed by the great Trey Spruance, as well as the rest of King for a day” album
This info can be found on the PDF FNM discography on FNM.COM

Ah,
Back to the sensible adult discussions. Surely proof that Peeping Tom beeyatches and old school people who own vinyl copies of ‘Introduce Yourself’ can get along in perfect harmony without resulting to childish tantrums and name calling. Just the way it should be.
The subject of favourite FNM b-sides? Hmmmm…. How about what was your favourite ‘Real Thing’ t-shirt? That should keep the old dogs happy!
November 15th, 2006 at 12:21 PM
Absolute Zero is one of my faves – should’ve been on the album.
I had one of those old long sleeve shirts (same as Jim Martin wears in falling To Pieces video), man this old dog loved that shirt – it’s full of cigarette burns now and shrunk to the size of a kids shirt:)

Hmmm, maybe more Stavros than Borat. DuDe has issues!
Saw the mighty Fishbone in Glasgow last night. Still going strong after all these years, even if they only have 2 original members. The frontman, Angelo Moore, is an absolute living legend. I remember getting into them at about the same time as I first began to dig FNM. Ah memories.

Who would like to see Mike Patton collaborating with? (And, no, posting in Roddy, Billy, Mike & Jim doesn’t count!)
I would live to see him involved with Josh Homme’s Desert Sessions. I know he was asked before but had to turn it down for whatever reason but who knows in the future.
Others, Outkast would be a blast(Patton is a fan and introduced one of their tunes as part of his MTV2 takeover). The Mars Volta too, maybe.
Any other ideas, or is it a crap subject!?!
November 20th, 2006 at 6:00 AM
secret chiefs 3…
otherwise, ruins, sunn o))), thrones and shakira.
and would a diamanda galas duet be too much of a screech-fest?
November 20th, 2006 at 6:31 AM
Diamanda Galas, there is possibilities there. A concept album centered around the mating calls of various animals of planet Earth. Very organic.
November 20th, 2006 at 8:34 AM
May the force be with you all, except to the joke, rome. LOL

Rad: you are a cunt. I don’t believe I can say it any more bluntly.
“Thank you, please”
Hey, Popester – who’s your MC mate?
November 20th, 2006 at 1:55 PM
Trevor Sinclair – he’s a top lad. I went to school with him, he was injured on Saturday though. Told me about going to London in midweek to see the doc then seeing Simon Cowell in Stringfellows and ended up in the same club as Michael Jackson after he’d been booed offstage! How the other half live eh?
Last year was a laugh in the players lounge after we had tonked MU 3-1. Got a pic with me and Robbie Fowler and I was holding 3 fingers up (he scored the 3rd) to show all the reds at work!
November 20th, 2006 at 2:23 PM
Hey “Pasc”, you are a poser, tell me, what is that gives you the right to mess with someone who is not sending any message to YOU???, i can see your posts from different topics and for me are irrelevant shit, and it always were like that, until now i didn´t wanted to tell you cuz i don´t care about it, and you never tried to interrupt me before, but you come here, arrogant and writing just shit, , i can imagine the class of perspective that you have for music, yeahh, you adore FNM, and now, years later, rappin around the P.T “suggestive lyrics” thinkin that is really music, being around of teenangers and lovin an unknown woman named Norah Jones just by the fact that she is in P.T, i bet you never heared her name before listening P.T, you are just like them, the new generation of M.P fans, or in other words a Patton bitch.
I won´t gonna give me the bored work of read your eventual stupid answer for this cuz i don´t want to, am done with all the bicthes like you, or your friend here who want to listen the chemical brothers with mike patton……………………….wtf is this?? are you playing with the musical taste of mr. Patton??, well, play with that shit all what you want, imagine how supossedly great could be that could be that, for first and last time i will play also, well, i would like to see mr. Patton with chains, necklaces, and gold rings with a big yankees t-shirt rappin songs with mid-naked black girls in front of a corvette or something LOL, what a nasty shit, is that what you want right??, well, for the last time, like i said cuz am out of this place for a while, FUK your stupid tastes………….they are only shit just like you.
Farewell little bitches

Patton would make a killer album with the former members of Alice in Chains, after the death of their great lead singer Layne Staley.
The Seattle scene is what took me away from FNM and Bungle in the mid 90′s and for my money Alice was the only great band to have come out of that era/genre. I consider their style to be a lot like that of Angel Dust. Pairing up Patton with that band IMO would produce an album only matched by Angel Dust.
Most of you are from Europe, did you get into Alice at all, and did you ever hear the album Dirt?
Anyway it’s just a pipe dream matching that bands 10-15 year ago style with Pattons distant feats.
Mike
November 21st, 2006 at 4:59 AM
rad: jeeeeeeeesuschriiiiiiist. have a lie down before you burst a blood vessel.
anyway…
patredux: alice in chains were occasionally great, and I loved dirt…but patton with AIC? noooo! non! nein! nyet!
they’re far too downbeat and dreary and nowhere near as inventive as FNM. plus, they were creatively finished after dirt, and only half of facelift at most still stands up.
more to the point, they were layne staley, and layne staley was them. it pains me to see them reformed with a new singer.
November 21st, 2006 at 5:43 AM
So obvious but I missed it…….Aphex Twin. Now that would be evil!
Or even Velvet Revolver or INXS. Wait a minute, they have already tried to get him. (Patton’s response to INXS was sick and hilarious!). I suppose a duet of RatPack classics with Anthony Kiedis is out of the question too?
November 21st, 2006 at 5:47 AM
See you then Rad, going back to licking windows eh? Have a good time whatever you decide to do and hopefully you won’t come back with all your senseless ramblings, moaning, crying, bitterness and lack of respect.
Never heard of this Alice band but I don’t really like much metal at all.
November 21st, 2006 at 5:52 AM
are velvet revolver the worst band of all time? they’re like audioslave’s evil twin, which is saying something…
November 21st, 2006 at 6:30 AM
Quite possibly Portly Jim.
I wonder what Patton’s polite declination was to them.
The INXS response was a classic. If he ever found himself in their hometown in Oz he would be chased out of town Mad Max style!
November 21st, 2006 at 9:18 AM
Hey Pope! I’m also happy as we beat Norwich (scum) 3-1 at the weekend. Is Mr Sinclair into any Patton related projects? I can’t imagine too many footballers being that way inclined.
In regards to collaboration i’d like to see Patton team up with Squarepusher, and seeing as he lives down the road from me I could pop by – see how they’re getting on, y’know maybe even throw in some ideas myself hahaha.
November 21st, 2006 at 10:18 AM
Nah, he’ll have never heard of him Mark I wouldn’t waste my time asking him. He likes his beats though so may mention Xmen>Xmen & General Patton>Peeping Tom.
What about Patton and Slade?
“Iiiiit’s Christmaaaaaaaaaaaas! whooohhharrrrghuurrgh!!”

- Draw him a character for the GORILLAZ
- Some naked girlz only symphonic orchestra to do Burt Bacharach songs with
- Lovage II (has to be with Jennifer again)
Brilliant!
Lovage should go on tour as an opera in my opinion.
Interview links – thanks for that post. The new Tomahawk sounds interesting. No heavier stuff on the horizon – but he didn’t rule it out – thats code for “Faith No More come and get me again”.
Well, I live in hope.
For now I’ll be content with Celtic beating those red cunts.
November 21st, 2006 at 4:02 PM
Cheers for the links. Good darts dude.
November 21st, 2006 at 5:02 PM
more to the point, they were layne staley, and layne staley was them. it pains me to see them reformed with a new singer.
I could’nt have said it better myself, in that same way I think Patton could make it his band as well. That’s the thing that Patton does the best, bring the bands elements, place it on the spinning table and sculpt into something that’s unique. Like I said it’s a pipe dream, but replace Layne in the minds eye and I’m sure the band will follow, can’t happen without passion.
The interview on toazed is revealing, I don’t feel his “passion” for heavy metal either. Starting with the last FNM album. Yeah a few glimpses here and there just enough to make you wish.

Mike Patton with Macabre. Reportedly, he’s a fan and he’s also been listed in their thanks in the liner notes before.
November 22nd, 2006 at 2:32 AM
…ok…since the topic is peeping tom european tour, I just must say that I went in Pordenone and it was great show, at the end some girl throw a bra on stage and patton picked it up and put it in his pocket hahahahaha, that was funny, like some “take that” scene or something hahahahaha
November 22nd, 2006 at 7:19 AM
Peeping Tom @ Vienna Arena was fantastic yesterday. those of you who still have the chance to catch them near you, don’t miss it. Concert of the year!
November 22nd, 2006 at 1:37 PM
Popey – Mr Sinclair? Fuck me, dude, you’re well in!!!
Yah, we got rid of Rad; well, at least I think we did. I nearly went blind halfway through his posting……does the cunt think we all recently jumped on the Patton bandwagon last week?
Holy shit, the good lady already thinks I habour ‘man-love’ for the bloke as I’ve worshipped him since ’89.
Hey, Maya – did PT start with ‘Desparate Situation’ like the last tour? I’m going the the Liverpool gig on Saturday…..
….woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh!!!!!
November 22nd, 2006 at 11:47 PM
Yes Pascal,Desparate Situation was the first song and it ROCKS!! Hehehe,I’ve seen some gigs on youtube, and they are all the same hehehe, but yes, concert of my life, it’s just that it was in Italy and Patton was speaking Italian so I didn’t understand anything
November 23rd, 2006 at 3:14 AM
Cheers, Maya! Yeah, I’ve seen loads of Italian footage and he does tend to not speak English……..his accent is like something out of the Godfather!
November 23rd, 2006 at 4:09 AM
Hehehe Pasc
And Italian fans call him Mikelle hahahahaha, they were screaming that all the time hahaha
November 23rd, 2006 at 4:12 AM
Pope,
If you think you’re happy with Celtic beating the Govan Gub’s XI, I have barely fell back to planet Earth. What makes it all the sweeter is the incessant whinging of the management, players & fans. It’s new to me but I bet you & Pascal are totally used to their sour grapes and arrogance.
To all the “bitches” (copyright Sad Mad Rad Dude) fortunate enough to be able to see PT in the near future, enjoy! I ain’t jealous at all!
November 23rd, 2006 at 5:24 AM
Midnight,
Excellent links BTW. Thank you.
November 23rd, 2006 at 5:50 AM
Ryan mate the things they have come up with in the past you wouldn’t believe. Gems like “we played in the wrong colour” and “the wind was blowing the wrong way”. Worlds best at pulling their faces. That Neville wants a golden dummy. I’d love to see a slo mo of the ball smashing into his face ala Rocky before bobbling over the line.
It’s a nightmare having to put up with their constant boasting etc etc.
But then thats what fists are for aren’t they?
November 23rd, 2006 at 6:42 AM
Monsignor,
What kind of captain is Neville anyway? It has been reported that he said to Neil Lennon just before Saha’s penalty that “He is going to miss this. His head is all over the place.” Why didn’t the ugliest of the Neville bros (what a choice), as captain, do something about it? The arrogance of a team who have spent God knows what in the transfer market and who are on the verge of failing to progress from the group stages of the Champion’s league for the 2nd year running, is staggering. I used to think the anymosity aimed towards them from their countrymen was simply jealousy. Now I know better.
One word (borrowed from Cartman) to describe the victory on Tuesday – “Sweeeeeeeet!”.
November 23rd, 2006 at 12:40 PM
Since I wrote the post which focuses on PT european tour, I’d like to contribute to the “soccer atmosphere” that has been created by the last posts.
I was in Florence on November 16 and I enjoyed Mike’s italian, fooling some poor “merdallari” (merda [=shit] + metallaro [=heavy metal fan] = merdallaro:-) who were in the audience, or joking with the band that didn’t of course understand a word of what he was saying (you can figure out what:-).
Best moment of the show (besides the opening and closing covers and the Rahzel solo) was the very nice dedication of track n° 10 to the “shitty Mr. Zidane” (Mike said it in italian). The name of the track?
Sucker:-)

I envy all you bastiges over in europe. I was at the U.S. vs. Italy match in the world cup this year just to get a little of my favorite sport. Being Italian it was an awesome world cup, although I’d still like to see the U.S. win it to hopefully jumpstart some serious interest in america.
After that is when I went to check out moonchild.
We do get to see some of the european matches now here. But they’re hard to follow unless you’re completely involved.
All you …. enjoy the best sport in the world…. dammit.
Mike
November 23rd, 2006 at 3:33 PM
Fair play lads – I remember that interview where Mike was over the moon that Italy had made it to the quarter finals or semis.
If I ever meet him I’ll have to invite him to a match – I could invite him into the players lounge heheh! I’d tell him the Gallaghers will be their – I did hear that FNM covered Live Forever when they played in Manchester during KFAD tour – a secret gig that noone got to hear about and I missed! There was hardly any internet in those days (!)
Great free kick by Nikinakimoto or whatever he’s called and an even better penalty save. Come on Celtic – though actually I prefer Rangers – sorry!!! Thats the thing though in Manchester you used to get Utd/Celtic scarves and City/Rangers scarves but I must admit you don’t see them much nowadays.
November 24th, 2006 at 2:52 AM
Is Patton a fully fledged covert to the Azzuri because he married an Italian?
Patredux,
At the risk of sounding very cynical, I don’t think that even winning the World Cup would raise much interest in the US. Don’t get me wrong, USA ’94 was a raging success and a great tournament (thanks in part to Ray Houghton’s screamer for Ireland against the Azzuri) but it was probably seen as no more than a novelty.
Pope,
You are a disgrace to your name! Fair enough I can see it as a reaction to your rivals, but if you think Man Ure and all they stand for are scum of the Earth then, believe me, they ain’t a patch on the gers. Don’t even get me started on a Rad Dude-style rant about them.
All over England you will see the half/half scarves with Celtic and Everton/Liverpool/West Ham/Man Ure/Whoever. The only mobs who affiliate with the dark side are Chelski and Millwall. Says it all really!
Incidentally, 2 of the happiest chaps on the planet the other night would have been the Gallaghers. What a double whammy for them!
November 24th, 2006 at 3:18 AM
BTW Pope,
The superstar who scored the free kick for the Hoops the other night is called Shunsuke Nakamura. He shares a surname with Dan ‘The Automator’ Lovage guy. Best thing to come out of Japan since the Boredoms & the Mad Capsule Markets (now there is another couple of potential Patton collaborations).
November 24th, 2006 at 11:02 AM
Aye, I knew Saha was gonna miss that penalty; why the fuck they never let Shrek take it is beyond me. Turned out nice!!
Anyhow, what about the Toon last night????? Fucking sweet!!! Popey, your Sibierski reject comes in handy for the shite UEFA cup…..shame he couldn’t hit a fucking barn door in the league, though.
Ryan – shame you can’t get to see PT. At least there’s loads of live stuff on the beautiful creature that is youtube!!
November 24th, 2006 at 8:22 PM
Patton (like all soccer/football fans in america) are religated to cheer for other nationalities due to our poor showings. I am half italian therefore am not a banwaggon jumper (at least 1/2 way)
Ryan
ahhhh sadly I think (know) you’re right. We all have our dreams, but as all those that “push on a string;” hope is I all I have.
I can’t believe Patton gave up so soon on the american tour. He gave that interview in Oregon, via a phone call, but that’s the closest he ever came north of CA. Do you guys think he’ll come back over to the states, is that his MO, to tour america than europe and back to america? Maybe if he gets some airplay he’ll show back up, but there’s a real lack of knowledge about him around here. Most americans did the exact same thing I did and left FNM right after AD. Maybe he thought he could jumpstart something big when he opened up for the Who. Did’nt read any crtitiques of the show so I’m guessing he did’nt get a favorable review.
Any thoughts out there? Mike
November 24th, 2006 at 8:24 PM
Hey I’m pretty new here, but just thought I’d add my 2 cents. How about… Mike Patton collaborating with Tom Waits?
November 25th, 2006 at 7:30 AM
Patton, Italy, soccer….I remember the first Fantomas shows in Italy, July 2000 when he wore Totti’s shirt n°20 (Euro 2000)…unfortunately when they played in Rome the evening of the final Italy lost against France:-(
But then came 2006 and we got the greatest revenge possible:-)
SDP
November 25th, 2006 at 1:06 PM
Pasc, we used to call Sibierski “50p ‘ed” or “French Tony”
Yes he was held in high esteem – not!
November 26th, 2006 at 2:29 PM
Popey – can’t believe ver Sib scored in the league!!!! Wooooohhhhh!!!!!!
I was at the Liverpool PT last night – fucking amazing!! Mr Patton informed the crowd that he was once propositioned by Posh Spice and turned her down (hey, the man has taste).
My good lady noticed that he wasn’t wearing his wedding ring; we are rather convinced that he is now snaking the rather lovely Imani Coppola.
Any thoughts, anyone?????
November 26th, 2006 at 3:01 PM
Posh Spice !! Wasn’t he just fucking about ? When did Posh Spice evr remotely move in the same circles as Mike Patton !?!?!
What was the gig Like?
November 26th, 2006 at 6:16 PM
Pascal – I heard Mike Patton and his wife split up a while ago. Probably down to his constant touring and music making, I doubt it leaves much time for husbandly duties. Not that its any of our fucking business!
I just got back from the London gig, was excellent, although not as good as last time. Partly down to the venue (the koko is a shite-hole) and I would have liked another Lovage track or something. Although Rahzels Justin Timberlake skit was awesome.
November 27th, 2006 at 12:55 AM
They split in 2001,so I don’t think Imani has anything to do with this.
November 27th, 2006 at 3:11 AM
I love this blog. If it doesn’t resemble the 4-4-2 magazine, then it turns into an issue of Hello! magazine. Fantastic. What ever would RadDude think of it all?
The posh spice thing? There could be some element of truth there. I have a DVD with old FNM tv appearances on it. When FNM appeared on Top Of The Pops in ’97 with ‘Ashes To Ashes’, they were introduced by the guest presenters-the Spice Girls! Posh’s exact words-”Now with Ashes To Ashes, here’s the very sexy Faith No More!”. Plus she had a certain look in her eyes when she said it. Mind you, she always has that look on her face-the pouting mannequin in the Dolcis shop window!
November 27th, 2006 at 5:24 AM
Really ?? Mmmm interesting, thanks for that Ryan our Roving Reporter!
Yeah we better stop with all this nonsense incase Rad comes back and starts shouting at us eh?
Personally, I would’ve boned Emma. I think she would’ve enjoyed a slap on her rump!
November 27th, 2006 at 8:31 AM
they also played “get up punk” the general patton/xecutioners track in liverpool last
November 27th, 2006 at 9:54 AM
Can’t beleive I’m missing these shows! Can anyone confirm that they finish the show with a cover of ‘Across 110th Street’ by Bobby Womack?
Pope,
I was more of an All-Saints man myself, at the time. Not too sure about the current transvestite re-union tribute band that is currently around!
November 27th, 2006 at 2:11 PM
Yep Ryan, the Jackie Brown intro tune is the final piece of these european PT sets.
I know that calling the tune this way is a bit unfair since it came before Tarantino’s movie…nice tune anyway but I still prefer the Rahzel solo though.
SDP
November 27th, 2006 at 2:30 PM
Maya – you sure he split up with Titi in 2001? He was wearing his wedding ring when I saw PT in London early this year (Rad: this is the perfect opportunity to start ranting).
Ryan – nice theory on the ‘Skeletor’ Spice story; imagine if Patton had become Mr Posh? He may have done the male voice on ‘out of your mind’….
Yeah, Rahzel doing that Timberlake piece was quality! Mike S – I’ve never been to the Koko; I’ve only seen them at the gaylord Astoria and Forum in London. The Carling Academy is Liverpool was a perfect venue – I was so close, I could actually tell the time via Patton’s watch.
So was the the other encore (before ‘Get up, punk’) from ‘Jackie Brown’ (fucking well shite film, by the way)? Patton said it was the first time they’d done it – it sounded well-slick.
Pope, I would have fucked Mel B……
……with a baseball bat round the head and neck.
November 27th, 2006 at 11:47 PM
Pasc:maybe it was just a ring, couple of years ago on Fantomas he was without it.Well,I’m not 100% sure, but whatewer anyway
November 28th, 2006 at 7:33 AM
Went to the London gig. Was very nice – but a bit of a let down after seeing them play in the magnificently huge Brixton Academy and with space to jump up & down (the energy was literally sapped out of me at Koko).
The Koko’s acoustics are almost as bad as the Astoria’s too, which doesn’t help. :/ Sigh. Too bad really, because the venue itself doesn’t look too bad.

Well done, Adebisi (AkA Stefano). You faked your own death to escape from OZ. Ingenious!
Pascal,
What a weird thought-Patton becoming Mr Posh! Doubt he would have became the face of Gilette somehow or a Hello! whore. Imagine Posh doing the backing vocals to ‘Sucker’.

Come on Radius vent your spleen!!

Henry Rollins mentions on his site that the next season of the Henry Rollins show will feature an appearance by Peeping tom….Also read an interview that the new tomahawk record is done just needed to be mixed and mastered.
November 29th, 2006 at 12:00 PM
Excellent stuff. Plenty more PT in the future and another Tomahawk disc on the way. ’07 should be another good year for us Patton bitches.
Being in one of Patton’s bands must be like being a mistress of a wandering adultress philanderer. You can picture the Tomahawk guys, sitting around waiting for word from Mike-”He promised he would call, but he’s too busy getting down with his other woman to bother about us!”.
He’s the musical version of an old sailor. A band in every city, instead of a girl!
November 29th, 2006 at 1:37 PM
Yup, he’s a bit of a slattern!
I wish some English fucking reporters would interview Mike; it always seems to be someone with the language skills of Rad (Christ, I can’t get away from the bastard) who asks the questions…
….and they’re always the same fucking questions. I think chewing that gum was the only thing keeping the man awake during the toaszted interview!
November 29th, 2006 at 3:12 PM
Hi there!!!
Heeelp!! I’ve been to the gig on sunday at Koko…amazing, even though I have to agree, the sound wasn’t great. Anyway, does anyone know where they are going to play on the 4th December??? They said they’ll be in London, but can’t find the information anywhere!?!
Thanks!!!
November 30th, 2006 at 12:18 AM
I don’t think so thenadi, there is MOONCHILD gig on the 4th of Dez in Braga(Portugal), so I think Patton will be there. Sorry
November 30th, 2006 at 6:03 AM
Good analagy Ryan!
How bout a live PT dvd eh???
November 30th, 2006 at 6:59 AM
Pope,
A PT live DVD would be out of this world, especially for those of us not fortunate enough to have seen them yet. Judging by the clip of ‘Across 110th Street’ that was posted on here the shows looked and sounded supreme.
Maybe he could put together a big one-off show, like the Gorillaz did. They actually got all the artists who appeared on the album to make guest appearances at the show which was released on DVD. I’m not a huge fan but it was a great spectacle of a show with guests as varied as Shaun Ryyyyyyyyderrrrr & Ike Turner.
Let’s start pestering Ipecac to get this show on the road!
November 30th, 2006 at 7:09 AM
PT don’t have anymore UK dates. Dub Trio are playing with Skindred at the Mean Fiddler on 4th Dec. Joe Tomino did mention this at the end of the set so that’s where you may have got the 4th from. Incidently, Dub Trio played an hour set for us in Chiswick last night (I work in a music school). They were fucking great.
November 30th, 2006 at 12:17 PM
Thanks Darren for that, I did misunderstand! You know, I’m Italian, and after 7 years living in this country, I still get things wrong sometimes…:-(
Nevermind…I may go to the Dub Trio gig instead!
Maya, you are so lucky, I’ve never been to a Patton’s gig in Italy, he’s so funny when he speaks Italian!!!
November 30th, 2006 at 2:04 PM

Lost in translation……. hahaha
Hey thenadi, you have reason on the Italian version of Mike Patton.
As I have written over has been amusing to feel Patton to take in turn the rest of the band that it did not understand a tube of that Mike said. Also with FNM in 1997 it made the same one (“do not understand I haul” and rideva:-).
Mitico when to Milan 1997 churches to in the first rows going up on the theater box and seeing that the type did not understand that disse:”Dico Patton was referring you to he, to you that is similar Ligabue!” and then it added addressing to the public “But like? It does not appeal to to that one stronzo of Ligabue?”:-)
A Florence the dedication to you of the piece” sucker “to that merdoso of Zidane has been the cigliegina on the public cake… of the Flog in delirio.
All’ Estragon with the Fantomas-Melvins big band was not equally in shape although the concert has been beautiful. It was a po’ that I did not see it therefore exalted… with the PT is amusing a lot and is looked at.
Hope this helps……. heh
Maya do what I do …………… pay the scalpers…..
I can’t beleive the moonchild concert is in that big of demand……… Patton really must have a following over there. Have you listened to the album yet Maya? I would suggest boning up on it as the concert can get linear and hard to follow. I studied up as much as I could, but it still came off a bit ummm unconventional?….. yeah it’s supposed to be that way…OK.
Wish I was in Italy, can’t wait till I go……. might be early next year.

Patredux-course i’ve listened the album, great “music”,but I like astronome more . em…I don’t quite understand “pay the scalpers”??can you tell me more about it?(and how can this help me to get 4 tickets?)hehehe, probably it can’t:)

Maya:
I knew about the Moonchild in august. Nevertheless I wasn’t able to find the tickets at the end of october because they were over!!! That happened because I was waiting for some friends of mine to decide whether joining me or not.
No need to tell you what was my reaction when I heard it was sold out!!
One of these friend of mine tried to get some extra tickets because he had important connections with the onwer of the venue….there was nothing to do about it either:-(
When I saw John Zorn’s Masada in 2000 I remember many guys sat down on the floor: more tickets than the regular seats were sold to make money (the venue was a theatre as well); I was told this won’t happen in Milan due to security issues.
Patredux:
I was trying to share some of my memories with an italian living outside his country and I thought that writing in our language was a nice idea; I must confess you did a nice translation…you didn’t get lost:-)
During the Milan 1997 show he fooled a poor guy in the first rows because he happened to look like an italian singer called Ligabue and Mike said to the crown “Hey there, don’t you like that piece of shit of Ligabue?”.
You’re right when you say that Patton and Zorn have a lot of supporters here. Patton has been living in Italy for few years and all his shows here have a different taste since he can speak our language….and when you become popular everything you do is said to be a masterpiece.
To be honest I’m not too much into Moonchild as well, I find it “too dry”, maybe an extra instrument would have been perfect (a guitar maybe) for a more “liquid” sound. And besides this, their inspirations are very uncommon names: Antonin Artaud and Edgar Varese.
Try to listen to Ameriques for large orchestra by Varese….simply amazing!

Went to the Moonchild show in Brussels, and though it was very good and all of the about 1500 who packed the AB were really into it, the show lasted only 40 minutes! The crowd was really booing them, and rightfully so.

Maya:
i have grown accustom to paying scalpers (people that buy a bunch of tickets to sell outside the day of the event, at a much higher cost) due to my procrastination tendencies….. heh. There are many ways of going about this. One is to wait them out and get a better price when the hour is near, or you pay a high price usually for the best seat in the house. But in your case (trying to buy 4 tickets) I’d say you’re up a creek without a paddle.
Go alone and you won’t have a problem…… 2 at the most for decent seats at a premium cost.
Also have you looked online for them? There are a ton of sites for scalpers now. But I’m not sure about over seas. I did a quick search for you and I could’nt find anything. Probably due to the extension .com.
The concert is short because the album is 40 minutes long? When I went it was a whole event recognizing some avant-garde artist. But the moonchild part was short.
Maya you must have that “european eclectic” taste. And I know there has to be scalpers in Italy………… heck I had to buy my ticket for the WC from a clan of Italians.
Good luck…… sorry I was’nt more help

This Ameriques for large orchestra by Varese is a single on an album, correct? I looked it up on Amazon and took a listen to a snipit, sounds a lot like the bit that Zorn did at the Moonchilc concert. The closest I get to this type of music is an occasional listen to Sigar Ros. I know it’s nothing like but I’m still a rocker at heart…
I can’t take full credit for the translation due to the online free sites, one I used for this occasion. Reminds me to get one of those “learn to speak italian easy” programs….before heading over.

Patredux:
Edgar Varese is quite popular among “rockers” due to Zappa’s admiration towards the french-american composer. “If Zappa liked him there should be a reason”…so at least people know about him, few also invistigate his music.
I like him a lot and as it always happens when you find out these lesser known old masters, you realize they were great.
I wouldn’t say the sound of Ameriques being close to Moonchild. Ameriques is for a large orchestra (more than 100 elements)…maybe there is the same atmosphere, dark and mysterious. Ameriques alternates chaos and peace. It’s really a tour-de-force.
I must confess that when I saw it live in Rome last year, parts of the audience after the piece was done looked at each other a bit oddly. Ravel’s Bolero was really appropriate to change the weird atmosphere that Varese created:-)
Winer:
Yeah, it’s a shame. A 40 minutes set is really short though I must say the tickets here in Italy are cheap: 12 €, which means 14 $. Not really high prices. I’m NOT going anyway; at the end of october the gig was sold out! The Patton-Zorn combo is getting too popular:-)
If I had lived in Milan I would have tried to get some tickets outside the venue, but since I live 3 hours from it, it’s not worthy. Hope to see it next time.

Hi there, I don’t want to write a new post about it because I don’t want to read other useless quarrels, but I guess it’s utopia again….anyway to whom it may concern……the New Year’s Eve in NYC (TONIC) is going to be Patton/Zorn flavored again.
In 2004 Zorn & Patton played two sets later joined by Ikue Mori for a quick Hemophiliac thing.
In 2005 Electric Masada featured Mike Patton for an unique nonet (the following night Painkiller with Patton just like Zornfest 2003).
Now in 2006 another combination (of the usual musicians I must say):
“John Zorn, Mike Patton, Bill Laswell & special guests + Steven Bernstein’s Millennial Territory Orchestra”
If you have Moonchild and then Astronome 2007 will see the third part: “Six litanies for Heliogabalus”. Now that’s a title for an album:-)

BTW,
Has anyone ever experienced a live John Zorn show with Patton? What are they like? Are they extreme blasts of unlistenable noise followed by deeply melodic passages (like an even more intense Fantomas)? At least that’s how I imagine it to be.
The only thing I have heard them collaborating on before (apart from the 1st Bungle album) was a project called ‘Weird Little Boy’ which also featured Trey Spruance & William Winant. It is a pile of shit, signified by the autographs on the front of the CD (Patton’s included)-right beside Trey’s scribble he has drawn a big pile of poo, steam and all!

Ryan:
Patton & Zorn? Just like Eye & Zorn duo, without the “japanese crazy touch”. It was my first Zorn show, march 1998, Florence.
There was a “multimedial festival” which began with Gary Lucas (guitar solo) playing a live and improvised score for “Der Golem”, a Patton/Zorn duo and finally some other artists I don’t remember at all: we actually went out of the theatre because we had enough after the first two sets:-)
Funny story: I went to the bathroom inside the venue before the show and as usual I was whistling/singing some FNM tunes:-) When I went to wash my hands I noticed this guy staring at me through the mirror. He was washing his hands too and I said to myself “I must have seen this guy before…some place”. A friend of mine came in and it was then I realized the man next to me was Mike Patton!?! I didn’t say a word to him, nothing and my friend (a real Patton bitch:-) started complaining with me saying “Why didn’t you stop him?” and other things like this.
I must say that after few minutes of their half hour set a guy in the audience screamed he wanted to hear music, not crap. Mike & John turned around, they bent down showing their backs (asses actually) to the crowd with the hands (without pulling down their pants I mean).
It wasn’t that great (to me). Nonsense screams and whistles for 30-40 minutes. I wasn’t into Zorn as much as I was going to be few months later, but I still prefer Eye than Patton for those kind of things. Japanese do weird things better:-)

Tell you what, I don’t relly fancy any of that stuff at all. I’ve thought I’d be one of those people quietly nodding as though i’m aware of the intricacies and uniqueness of it all but I’d be thinking “what a load of shit”.
I don’t even like 90% of Fantomas stuff. Some stuff where the track makes a 90 degree turn are great but when its just an experiment of noise I don’t need to pay good money on stuff that I think is crap just to make myself look cool in some way. But hey ho everyone is different.
Hat off to you if you can actually appreciate that stuff!
Give me FNM/Tomahawk/PT/Lovage any day.
December 5th, 2006 at 6:19 AM
The Pope:
You’re absolutely right. I bought the first Fantomas album in may 1999 because as a big fan of Naked City I was hoping Patton had made his own version of that great band. What a fool I was!
I can stand few pieces, but not entire albums by Fantomas; the second one is good, but once I listened to the original soundtracks I realized they were much better than Patton’s arrangement.
As you say, it’s just a matter of tastes….some people like complicated stuff, other don’t. And some guys love some complicated tunes and some guys other weird songs….different points of views again.
I must confess sometimes I went to those shows (I mean avantgarde like) because they were out of town (a good chance to get out of it:-) and they were a way to support artist that I liked, not because I was such a fan of the music played.
And you’re absolutely right when you speak of people’s attitude when talking about that music: too proud or too cool. That was my way of approaching music few years ago: ego-trip! I don’t like it anymore, it’s stupid and useless.
It’s not my fault if I like Edgar Varese, but if I say so it’s not because I want to show off “my knowledge”, it’s just to spread the word. Maybe someone could appreciate him as well. If not, no problem. Let’s go ahead.

I’m not a fan of the Zorn stuff and I certainly wouldn’t go see him and Patton making strange noises on stage but I LOVE Fantomas. I think its original and refresshing although I need to be in the right mood to listen to an album all the way through.
The Directors cut is amazing. Like you said SDP, the source material is better but I love Pattons take on it. Esp the Godfather & Twin Peaks covers.
December 5th, 2006 at 6:59 AM
I must agree that the Fantomas are definitely an acquired taste. I have edrarely listen to the 1st album, I LOVE ‘The Director’s Cut’ and the opening 2 and-a-half minutes of ‘Delirium Cordia’ (I can’t really stomach the other 70+minutes). ‘Suspended Animation’ has some great moments mainly due to the cartoon sound effects throughout.
I would recommend seeing them live, even if only for novelty value. Watching baffled moshers attempt to keep in sync with the music is hilarious! A quick mosh for 5 seconds then STOP! 10 seconds of melodia, then crash-bang wallop, quietness again, etc.
I think a live Patton performance is welcome anytime. That’s why I’m hoping PT come back to the UK, and particularly Glasgow, to make up for the snub this time round, next year to promote the 2nd album.
December 5th, 2006 at 9:51 PM
Maya:
How’d you make out getting tickets and by what method? update!
Ryan:
Yeah I did, it was the moonchild album along with a tribute to a past artist. So I think I got to see Zorn in all his glory. If I was a critic writing a column I would’nt know where to start and end. I’m sure I’d sound like a rambling fool trying to relay my experience all the while panning in a back-handed-way. The audience (mostly of the artistic type) gave the obligatory applause after each set without conviction. All I could think of was the lyric “aplause aplause AAAAAAPPLAUSSSSEE” The ticket was cheap and the show was a glimpse into a realm (genre would be to pingeon-hole it), I think, would take more effort than enjoyment gained.
Hope PT gets back to the states.

I can see peoples’ point of view re Fantomas; I used to feel the same way.
However, it’s not until you see Fantomas that you can appreciate the music; I used to think it was improv until I realised that their “noise” was replicated as per their recordings, without any deviation.
Now that takes fucking skill!
Christ, I would never pretend to like something cos it was deemed cool; I’ll leave that to the sad, comedy cunts into “The Kooks” or “FUCKING RAZORSHITE”…..
….oh, oh, oh, oh, oh petticoat!! Timeless lyrics, or what?
December 6th, 2006 at 2:35 AM
Patredux,
That sounds like a “smooth” jazz club you were in. The audience sounds hilarious. Were they reading beat poetry whilst smoking pipes and wearing cravats?
Pascal,
Too true. I feckin’ hate the vast majority of all that indie shite as well. Each week, a new band that sounds and looks exactly the same as the last shower of NME darlings is the new ‘flavour of the day’. They will have one medium-size hit and one album then disappear into obscurity or reality TV. There are some exceptions to this rule, but few and far between.

It was at the Babican (sp) in London. Totally caught me offgaurd. I flew in that day, after partying in germany the whole night before at a match, and there I was at what seemed an opra house. Subdoed was the mood and I felt a whole lot of pretentiousness. But really it’s hard for me to make heads or tails of any of it. I felt like a fish out of water, remedial avant gaurde acclimation was needed badly….heh, but not something I will take commit too. I would like to see Fantomas live but probably only once! The Directors Cut and some bits off Suspended Animation is the 10% I like. I’d love them to do a “proper” album – don’t waste me for saying that please – I just think some of the riffs/sounds from Suspended Animation could easily be expanded on and made into fucking amazing structured songs. Hey! If I had some decks and knew how to remix I could do it!!
How ’bout it Fantomas v’s The Pope !!!!
December 6th, 2006 at 6:37 AM
This Fantomas discussion is showing from how many different angles their music can be watched. I saw them in 2001 and it was really impressive seeing the same noises made at the same times of the album tracks. That requires hours of practice indeed, and skills of course.
I prefer “catchier” stuff from Mr. Patton though. Peeping Tom were very cool on stage, it was fun to watch and sing along. But I can live without Tomahawk, I don’t miss them very much (please don’t kill me:-).
Moving to the Zorn related area…well, if I were you I would try Electric Masada. That’s another impressive band to see live and it really rocks!! Amazing octet. Other Zorn projects probably need a deeper knowledge and earing experience with avantgarde/classical composers and might sound like crap or useless rumors…..I believe Zorn has given is best already (don’t kill me again:-).
I’m really curious to know if Maya made it….and if so, how.

Are you going through a twelve step program purging your old identities? With all the AKA’s and schizoid music patton puts out, did you deligate each to a different “patton genre”? Nope I just played that video again and I still have a really hard time making anything out that resembles his voice.
