I’ve noticed that Mike has been chewing gum in a lot of his recent videos…curious. Not really any new revelations, but Some talk about future projects….very cool. I liked his motivation behind using the name “Peeping Tom”…They had the Mojo Video up there, I guess we’re not gonna see a second vid. 5 Seconds A Surreal Love song from a hospital bed? Nice! Hadn’t seen that interview Pascal…very cool. Always cool to hear Patton’s take on music, and why he does it. He sounds like a very intelligent person. Always fun to read. As for the gum and the repetition, it’s interesting to see all the press for Peeping Tom, and hear almost every interview sound the same…

There is very little up-to-date info released on Patton and Patton-related stuff through the press, or even the Ipecac site which is ctill currently under reconstruction.
This is the best site I have experienced before, as bloggers are free to post in links and hearsay, and any relevant topical news. We can also gossip and talk shite like the Patton beeyatches that we are!

Just read a review of the Moonchild show in Milan on All About Jazz Italy. Zorn is such a name and even if his experimental projects are so distant from what we usually think jazz is, everytime he plays in Italy lots of people attend at his gigs.
Believe it or not I couldn’t find a seat at the end of october, more than a month before it! Damn! Patton & Zorn are too popular here in Italy:-)
Anyway, the review was really negative. The show was really disappointing and the Zorn’s attitude towards a fan wanting him to sign up a couple of cds was so bad that he looked like one of those pop stars he hates so much.
I’m afraid it was not an objective review but I must confess I’m a bit annoyed by the latest Zorn stuff and after listening to Astronome (after Moonchild) I came up with the same impression of the reviewer: it’s boring.
I must also add though, that if I had a chance I would have gone there: Patotn and Baron are among my favorites and they always deserve a glance.
I’m heading towards the italian cover’s cd…

Aaah, sweet nostalgia! What is the big, sick ugly one up to nowadays? Apart from being a champion pumpkin grower, the last thing I heard him do musically was appear on a Clash tribute album-this was about ’99.
When you think about just how completely opposite they are, it is a wonder that Jim and Patton managed to make 2 albums together(well, one and a-half, Jim was missing for a lot of the Angel Dust sessions).

The interview was just getting good. Patton telling the two interviewers to talk amoungst themselves, and they did, I was waiting for the real blowup and the video ended. Wonder there were more shots. I still think it’s interesting that Patton answers the guy respectfully after all that, I mean what a complete smartass, lol……… gotta love it.
Colbert is acting the part of a stiff, it’s a shtick (sp) sort to speak, He’s also very dry with a sledge hammer, not very subtle, again his shtick. Polar opposite of say the little limp wristed Jon Stewart (his partner in crime) who he would play the straight guy with on his show.

I’ve got a post still waiting for moderation approval from the 24th. So merry belated christmas and new year.
It’s funny because I’ve seen this internet struggle a few times. If you’ve ever belonged to an online community for any length of time much like this blog or a forum you’ve, it’s an ever changing generational shift. Due to whatever, but mainly something revolutionary.
Most grow tired and move on after their human condition of “fear of change” wears off and plays itself out. Some stick around and become an invaluble member to newcomers with their vast historic knowledge. Not to many know as much about Pattons full history, in my case having left the scene for 10 years, but it’s the immature that scoff at what they perceive as stupid questions and lack of knowledge.

If I have one slight criticism of this site, and I hate to nit-pick when people have put so much hard work into it, is that perhaps there ain’t enough updates. When you have one continuous thread, certain posters (no names mentioned, it’s pretty obvious) may become “restless” and start to personally abuse others when they have no more constructive comments to make.
Here’s hoping both sites can live side by side in perfect harmony!

No-one avoided any question. If you read through any posts from earlier you will see that everyone agrees that Patton was totally justified in doing what he done the a-hole of a presenter on that show, Terry “Ay Ay” Christian.
If you think that Patton deliberately makes music so that everyone hates it then you are a class A mong. I’m sure that he gets off on certain groups or categories of people hating his music. I and a few friends make music too and it is quite satisfying seeing Oasis fans or people into “conventional” music as such pulling grimaces like a camel eating sherbert! Hilarious!
As for the tired old “Patton Bitches” rants, I have yet to read a blogger on here who makes a claim to liking, or even tolerating, every single thing Patton does. I don’t live in England so I’m not familiar with that show and don’t know the host (that was a short clip). But the FNM guys did go on the show so they could plug their album, so Patton should of had some respect. If he knew beforehand the guy was an assh*le he shouldn’t of gone on the show. So what I see is they go on, and the host’s even nice enough to pour water for them. Then one of the first things the host does is mention “Bill Martin” and just cause of that Patton has to spill water on his face? Cause the crowd “oohed” a little? I’d say that’s an assh*le thing to do. He thinks people are gonna think he’s cool for doing that? Maybe that group of people were laughing but I bet the people at home were saying “why’d he have to spill water on his face just for saying a band member’s name wrong?”. I didn’t get why he had to do that, I don’t think it was cool. Not even Axl Rose would do that. That host should’ve later ordered some more water and spilled it all over Patton’s head by surprise, that would’ve been classic.

Alright all you co-soccer fans; especially european soccer fans, what do you think about the Beckham move to the MLS? It’s just another attempt for american soccer to get popularized, much like the Pele move to the states in the 80′s.

One thing that bodes well for soccer is the demise of the NBA. With the NBA becoming more and more a gheto league I’m hoping a large part of the audience will be looking for something different.
But the major downfall for soccer in america is the culture of americans themselves. With our lack of history and instant gratification mindset, nothing less than constant excitement is doomed to fail. Defensive games don’t sell, only flashy pretencious fluff sells, and sells big, which perpetuates the very thing that makes soccer a hard sell.

I would say he only has a couple of good years left, 3 at best. Not enough to make a difference in the states. This is all good marketing though. The Beckham Galaxy jerseys were probably made ove 6 months ago. Anyway, who cares? I like Victoria better.

What’s his salary been back in Europe? I’ve heard he’s been the highest paid athlete in the world for 3 years, is that right? How does this contract compare?

I would hope that could work, but it’s just not the case. Players will not want to play in a leage for money only, it will take prestige of playing in a league with the top players in the world. Also there’s only two MLS teams that make money, so im sure the other teams could’nt afford it anyway. Sort of a chicken or the egg arguement could be made.
But I think the glaring problem for soccer in america, is americans themselves. It’s antithetical to think you would watch a sporting event without a score. Look at hockey’s demise in the states and as well as in Canada. They changed the rules for the NHL just to make it easier to score due to the lack of fan support.
Back to the cultural thing. Soccer is the queens game, baseball and football is america’s. Look at Japan, they idolize baseball and their players as well as pay them a lot. But not one american grows up saying how their goal is to play in the Japanese league. Because the Japanese league is the place where has-beens go, sound familiar?
Finally got digital cable, now I can get the European soccer network, will look into it next season.

Yes Pat but you have to start somewhere. You could bring prestige to a league by bringing in players that are past there best but not old donkeys. I reckon that most Prem players are on around £30-40k per week. Beckham I think was on £120k per week. Most players never win anything.
i’m sure there are many many international pedigree players who would go over to the states for £50k per week.
I’ve heard that is a combination of the MLS, Adidas and the actual club that is paying for this.
It’s never going to work though. How can he influence or bring glamour to a game he’s not even playing in? Everyone will turn out to watch him when their team plays LA Galaxy then not bother with their next game. If fans could look ahead and say we’re playing so and so who have Sol Campbel and Mark Viduka in their team and then next week so and so who have Lauren and Angel in their team and so on it’d generate a lot more interest. Although those players may not be their best in theor positions they do have talent and would enrich the MSL.

Let’s face it, he HAS gone into semi-retirement. That’s not a dig at MLS, which I genuinely hope takes off into the stratosphere, but I think he got fed up with being a bit-part player at Real and now, like the publicity junkies that Becks and Posh are, they want to be the big fish in the small pond with the spotlight shining constantly. I’m sure this is as much a Posh decision as Becks. Maybe she wants to move closer to Mike Patton!

Baseball has had it’s problems with attendance. The only thing that saved if was steriods. More homeruns provides the american audience with that instant gratification blast. But that might be coming to an end with congress getting involved.
No answer to my question about his salary in the past? Yes it’s a combination deal with sponsors, league and the team. The team is paying 50 million.

Really did’nt think a post about one of Europes famous soccer players coming to america was hijacking this whole forum. Especially with all the banter about the topic. But I did want to know what some of the hardcore fans thought of the move, due to a lot being in europe. It’s just one fans wish (pushing on a string) for a viable MLS league.
Looking at the salary, it’s really on par with a lot of players. Taking into account the built in commercial part of it.

Tell you what I’d love a concert from that era – I did have 3 on crappy VHS years ago but pretty bad quality.
One excellent one in Norway (I think) MP admitted all 300 speakers behind them where fake and had nothing in them! Then beat up a fan that jumped onstage and had to be held back by the security!
I don’t suppose anyone knows where I can get one?
Preferably Sheffield Areana 92/93 cos I went to that one!
It looks like there a lot of footage of that clip on Video Croissant from Rio shot from the side of the stage (MP has a red Texaco t shirt on they’re doing Epic and has the bottle/piss throwing incident) as I’ve seen further clips but I can’t remember where…..

1. Smaller and Smaller was never performed live, Kindergarten was performed only a handful of times during the early stages of the Angel Dust tour.
2. The one with the amplifiers is from Holland, unless he said that a few time. From 1992, when they were warming up Gn’R.
3. That clip from Video Croissant isn’t from Rio at all, it’s from Portugal probably. There are videos from Rio on youtube, that was over a year before that.

The vid I had wasn’t when they warmed up for G’n'R so he probably said it a few times.

That “empty amps” thing was in Paradiso Club, Amsterdam, Feb. 1992 (I have a bootleg CD of that concert).
Incidents with bottles were several. MP asking to throw bottles on stage indeed was in Portugal (and I was such an asshole, that I didn’t go to see soundgarden and FNM opening for Gn’R). He also bathed in piss from bottles thrown on stage in at least 2 subsequent concerts in Portugal that I can remember, but I guess he repeated this stunt throughout the European tour. This is not hear-said, I actually watched one of my friends filling one bottle that ended pouring over MP’s head.
I think Kindergarten live is a b-side of a single which I can´t remember.

I was at sheffield too…! and as I recall the only angel dust tunes they didn’t play were kindergarten and midnight cowboy. I could be wrong, but that’s my memory of it.

Again – There are a few tunes FNM never played live: Smaller and Smaller, Malpractice, Star A.D., She Loves me Not and maybe a bunch of others that I don’t remember.
Maybe we can check with Billy Gould, but as far as bootlegs and knowledge of setlists – Those track were never performed live.
Midnight Cowboy was first and only done during the last few legs of the AOTY tour, and DEP did Malpractice with Patton live.

I’ve got a fair bit of live footage from the angel dust tour, but no way of uploading it or copying it. sorry!
there are loads of bootlegs out there though. I got quite a few from ebay, although they seem to be cracking down a bit now…which pisses me off no end. it’s not as if these are official releases that are being pirated. no-one will buy a shonky bootleg live video over a properly made official release, especially given that bootlegs can be almost twice the price – if you’re unlucky.
