This sounds fantastic.
Seeing as it is obviously going to be a one-off performance, surely there will be an accompanying CD/DVD release to come?
Enjoy, Stefano and all the other Azzuri Italian contributors. I’m not envious in the slightest!

Hey, I wrote this post one month ago….maybe even more. I’m glad I see it now posted. A bit slowly, but at least the place works!
This has been in Mike Patton list for a long time. It was about four or five years ago when I first read about his will to make an italian disc, a tribute to the great italian pop singers of the 60’s.
I’m sure he will put out a cd out if this performance. Last year I saw the Patton & Kang show and this year that disc (cantus circaeus) is scheduled. I presume this project will follow the same timing.
I already bought the tickets because I’m curious to see him performing those tunes (I don’t know which ones exactly, but I guess he has picked the most popular ones): last year concert wasn’t that good (IMHO), hope this is better.
See ya

I posted a previous post about tickets and venue but it’s still under moderation (it takes ages to have something posted here sometimes). What I didn’t say is that there is a SECOND DATE.
So the final program of this weird new Patton project (“mondo cane”) is the following:
thursday 24 may 2007 – 21.00 – Teatro Rossini – Lugo (Ravenna)
friday 25 may 2007 – 21.00 – Teatro Comunale di Modena – Modena
Here’s the link for the Lugo date:

Hmmmm…I have reservation now, so…tnx anyway! about this place, I don’t know much about it, but… print yourself a map or somethong…?
March 30th, 2007 at 5:38 AM
I’m glad I found this place, I didn’t really know about this project. Got my tickets yesterday, I’m really curious…
As for the venue, it’s a theatre right in the city centre in Modena. The city itself is pretty small, so it’s not hard to find.
March 30th, 2007 at 8:53 AM
thanks for info on city, im staying in a hotel in the center so hopefully i can walk to the venue.
March 30th, 2007 at 12:45 PM
Trey, you can definitely walk pretty much anywhere in the city centre. If you need any help let me know, but it should be very easy just printing out a google map. Where are you flying from?
March 31st, 2007 at 12:58 AM
I’m flying from Uk To amsterdam To Bologna At 11.30 i believe thier is a bus that runs to modena from the airport. and it stops 100m from my hotel Central park.

Hai ragione, ormai questo posto vede solo notizie relative a Mike Patton mentre dei FNM o dei Bungle non si parla più…ma che ci vuoi fare, ormai si sono sciolti. Andrebbe cambiato il nome probabilmente.
“Patton voador”:-)

ENGLISH PLEASE!!
April 10th, 2007 at 12:56 AM
You’re right Maya but it started like giving infos for the tickets then two comments about the fact that this place is no longer FNM or Bungle related. The reason? Well those band don’t exist anymore.
Maybe we shoud call this place “patton voador”:-)
Anyway, there is an extra date for the “mondo cane” project, so the new final calendar is:
1—thursday 24 may – 9 p.m. – Teatro Rossini – LUGO °
2—friday 25 may – 9 p.m. – Teatro Comunale – MODENA °
3—saturday 26 may – 9 p.m. – Piazzale delle Terme Berzieri – SALSOMAGGIORE °
Plus there will be a Patton with Fennesz date in Rome (june 2), but that’s another story…
See ya soon

I hope this comment will be moderated on time…..otherwise it won’t make sense.
I think Maya is getting “upset” about all these italian comments:-) Anyway in my previous “waiting-for-moderation” post I wrote the extra date for the Mondo cane project:
1—thursday 24 may – 9 p.m. – Teatro Rossini – LUGO °
2—friday 25 may – 9 p.m. – Teatro Comunale – MODENA °
3—saturday 26 may – 9 p.m. – Piazzale delle Terme Berzieri – SALSOMAGGIORE °
That’s it and excuse us for the italian Maya…..see ya there in Modena on the 25th.

So did anyone go to the show last night? I did, it was great! I still can’t help being amazed but his voice and how good his Italian is (I know, it’s no news, but it was the first time I saw him live, and I was most impressed).
For the set list, he chose a few very popular songs, which he mixed with some less popular tunes. It resulted in a very interesting and enjoyable show.
May 26th, 2007 at 7:20 AM
I was there. The show was enjoyable because the tunes were almost twenty and not very long. Here’s a list of the tunes he played, not yesterday’s exact setlist which was a mix of it:
—————————————————
IL CIELO IN UNA STANZA – Paoli/Mina
CHE NOTTE – Buscaglione/Chiosso
ORE D’AMORE – Bongusto/Migliacci/Sigman/Rehbein/Kaempfert
20 KM AL GIORNO – Arigliano/Massara/Mogol
QUELLO CHE CONTA – Salce/Morricone
URLO NEGRO – Blackmen
LEGATA AD UN GRANELLO DI SABBIA – Fidenco/Marchetti
DEEP DOWN – Morricone
PINNE, FUCILE ED OCCHIALI – Rossi/Vianello
SCALINATELLA – Murolo/Bonagura/Cioffi
L’UOMO CHE NON SAPEVA AMARE – Fidenco/Pallavicini/Mogol/Bernstein
MA L’AMORE NO – D’anzi/Galdieri
CANZONE – Backy
DIO COME TI AMO – Modugno
STORIA D’AMORE – Celentano/Beretta/del prete
TI OFFRO DA BERE – Morandi/Meccia
LONTANO, LONTANO – Tenco
O VENEZIA – Rota
YEEEEEEEH! – Tenco/Sawyer/Burton/Bardotti
SENZA FINE – Vanoni/Gragnaniello
UNA SIGARETTA – Buscaglione
——————————————-
I’m italian but I don’t know italian music at all but I agree with you when you say that few very popular tunes were performed. Thinking of the original versions, the first thing that came to my mind was the italian singers were very good because Mike Patton’s voice wasn’t able to re-create the same atmosphere.
I’m speaking of IL CIELO IN UNA STANZA and SENZA FINE (beginning and end before encores of the show). Some songs were very good and rocked indeed! (DEEP DOWN and YEEEEEHHHH!)
The band was also very very good. A nice project which surely deserves to surface on a cd.

Thanks for posting the set list!
I actually think Il Cielo in Una Stanza was fantastic, a great opening to the show. I was very impressed with the way he performed it.
Overall, I liked the fact that he performed the songs in an original and unusual way, not necessarily trying to re-create the same atmosphere. I mean, it wasn’t a nostalgic show.
I liked the way he mixed cute and retro atmospheres with some healthy rock!
And yeah, some songs really rocked! I was sitting close to a few old ladies that looked kind of scared when Mike started singing in a Fantomas sort of way!
So, do you think this is going to become a cd at some point?
Ste
May 26th, 2007 at 11:50 AM
Well, I’m not sure it will become an album. Last year Patton performed in Modena an Eyving Kang piece (“cantus circaeus”) and 2007 is supposed to be the year for that cd release.
It means that MONDO CANE could show up only in 2008…even if I think they did record it few days before these three days concerts. We’ll see.
When good music is made by good players is always a great thing. I will always love FNM more than any other Patton band, but surely Patton proves not to remain still during the years. He always finds a new thing to do.

I understand it will be out on cd i think it will be a live cd
Eyving Kang cd i think is out in july.
the shows were great

“athlantis” is the name of the eyvind kang album, it’s coming out july 10th.
“The piece is something like an oratorio, with the incredible singers Mike Patton and Jessika Kenney on the main parts. I studied and set the text; I did the ground work and created the musical space. All of the singers, choir and soloists, came in and inhabited it and made it their own.”
- Eyvind Kang, 2007 ”
i suspect that patton will try to get the mondo cane album (live or studio, i don’t know) out a bit quicker than the kang one, though he still has to wait for the dust to settle after the shows!

It looks like the “Mondo Cane” audio cd will be released next year:-(
They also filmed the saturday 26 show but a dvd is not in their plans…I’m speaking of the Toscanini Fondation whose orchestra was on the stage playing the music for “Mondo Cane”.
Too bad because a video would be great…in case of updates I’ll post them here.

Hi Zira, yep it looks like a complete set. Two “mondo cane” shows are circulating:
1. Teatro Comunale, Modena May 25 2007
2. Piazzale delle Terme, Salsomaggiore May 26 2007
which are the second and third date of the short Mondo Cane tour. I have heard both audience recordings and the Modena is better; can’t wait to see the album since the tunes are great.
Thanks for the links,
