The Stone NYC : Sanity check for the scene.

Editor’s Note: The following post was submitted as a news story. While it appears to be nothing more that an advertisement, I let it be published because The Stone is a great venue if you live in the NYC area. On July 4th, Jai Young Kim performed at The Stone. For those who don’t know, Jai Young is the person responsible for coming up with the name “Caca Volante” back in 1994.

From http://www.thestonenyc.com/: The Stone is a not-for-profit performance space dedicated to the EXPERIMENTAL and AVANT-GARDE.

Trey Spruance of Mr. Bungle / Secret Chiefs 3 renown, appearing in a multitude of configurations at The Stone.

Additionally, members of Estradasphere and John Zorn himself ply their trade in recurring fashion.

I’m unable to comment on rest of the certainly-worthwhile-to-witness artists slated to appear, as the aforementioned were all that I recognized.

If you live in proximity, let there be no excuse to miss out.

Additional Note: This weekend is a fine example of the performances at The Stone. Tonight you can catch Carla Kihlstedt and tomorrow night, Secret Chiefs 3 will play John Zorn’s Book of Angels.

John Zorn will be in Milan at the end of September for his ending shows with the Masada family: “Complete Masada”, basically 3 different bands for 3 nights (so an overall of 9 groups rotating on stage).

Well the first night will feature Secret Chiefs 3. Now that’s something really unexpected and very pleasant.

It seems like Trey won’t meet Trevor though; Asmodeus and Electric Masada, the two bands Dunn plays in, will be the following two days.

Cool – shame I won’t be able to see any of this!?
Trey should take that very big chip off his shoulder. Okay, personal issues, yada yada, but unless Mike or anybody else murdered his dad or raped his mother then the aforementioned chip should go, go, go. To Trey: Don’t Even Trip. Also – when is new SC3 recorded activity?

    Hey Stefano,

Do you know where can I get tickets (online) for the Complete Masada shows in Milan in September?

    Many thanks!

  4. Stefano Says:

Hi there, I’m sorry to say that the Complete Masada in Milan WON’T TAKE PLACE.

The Saudades page still features the three dates but someone of the italian Patton forum phoned the theatre and they replied the show won’t happen. That’s too bad:-(

Since I was planning to see the entire program I’ll keep an eye on the situation and I’ll post updates here.

what’s up with Patton? The Peeping Tom European tour is cancelled, and on the PT myspace page people are talking about Patton being ill or sick. Anyone got any info on this?

  8. Francesco Says:

The 3 nights in Milan have been transformed into another one. Mr Dunn on bass, among many others… all details here

  9. mindbait Says:

as far as patton being ill, a friend of mine emailed ipecac and was told that the peeping tom tour was cancelled due to health issues and personel problems but that the health issues were much less serious than previously thought. spooky

and what’s all this reference to trey with a chip on his shoulder? if you listen to patton you’ll probably believe it was trey who broke up bungle, if you listen to trey you’ll think it was patton’s fault but hey why should we believe any of them?

  10. mindbait Says:

oh yeah and it’s definitely patton vs spruance, i mean look at it

patton works with dunn, he’s released the tango saloon (featuring heifetz) on ipecac and bar is thanked or acknowledged in the liner notes to delirium cordia.

spruance has recently toured or will soon tour with danny and bar and presumably even if he isn’t playing on the same night as trevor they’ll still see each other?!

  11. the dude Says:

if you browse through dunns q&a on his website he really explains it. hes admitted to being the “salt passer” in the band. but more than that, he says they were friends growing up but eventually grew apart musically and personally. i guess they wanted different things, and he also admits to having more incommon (musically) with patton. but even after that.. there does seem to be a grudge with patton/spruance… maybe spruance called him a pussy

  12. mindbait Says:

in an interview with spruance http://markprindle.com/spruance-i.htm he talks about it a bit, i think it’s the 3rd or 4th question.

spruance seems to have this way of badmouthing people while maintaining that he has nothing against them.

  13. the dude Says:

that is a really interesting read, thanks a lot, im kinda in awe for his way of speech

  14. Withdrawn Says:

Excellent interview! questions and answers were spot on. thanx for posting.

  15. mindbait Says:

hmm i found him to be a bit of a windbag actually but hey, it doesn’t make his music any less awesome.
