just checked out this remaster. to be honest, theres not a whole lot of improvement but the work they've done is noticeable. lots of the high frequencies have been smoothed out and are less distorted. one problem ive noticed is that some songs appear to have had their pitch shifted up. ive made a comparison video and posted it on youtube to illustrate the differences from the two versions.

Subtle differences in sound but nothing to scream about, packaging is a basic cardboard gatefold sleeve with standard Angel Dust lyric insert, images etc... and a useless Mofi insert with what must be a $13 gold cover sticker. The only thing decent about it is the CD "nice black and gold CD" (not multicoloured as on my site, damn scanner).

Just to note on the above topic: it was released through Warner/Rhino/Mofi.

Also just noticed that the liner notes show one "Mike Mordin: Drums".

Let's hear it for quality control at MFSL!

I just got it, and upon first listen (on quality earbuds - not at home on the hifi), it sounds very similar to the original release, although it's not nearly as "bright". That should make for a less-fatiguing listening overall, but at this point I'm not sure it was worth the $30 I spent on it.

Anyone else got the CD? I just got mine. Listened to it. doesnt sound much different than the original. Have to keep listening though, the changes seem pretty subtle.

A couple of notes on the details of the vinyl re-release listed below:

-While these re-masters may actually have increased dynamic range, and may sound more like the original mixes, mastering is an essential part of the recording process. It is planned for during mixing. Often the compression and EQ applied during mastering are essential to creating the final sound of a record.

-This isn't to say that this re-release won't be very cool to listen to, and perhaps provide some insight into the original mixing process. Just that it may not be what the band and producer originally intended. And I say that because...

-I noted that nowhere in the description of the re-release was it mentioned that the band, Matt Wallace, David Bryson, or John Golden were consulted on the re-mastering.

Which doesn't mean it's not worthwhile to check it out, especially as a fan. I'm just saying that the original mix master tapes aren't where the artistic part of the recording stopped.
---------------------------------------------
MFSL engineers were quite impressed with the dynamic range and natural tonality present on the master tapes. When compared to previous versions, the new MFSL GAIN 2 mastering is much more dynamic, and reveals detail and subtleties not heard on other versions. This new MFSL Gold CD allows the full dynamic range to shine through, giving fans the chance to hear this album the way it was heard at Scream Studios, where mixing was expertly performed by Matt Wallace and David Bryson

Is this an official release or a bootleg? I would have thought that any FNM release would have to be thru Rhino/Warners/Which-ever-big-named-company-owns-the-rights-to-the-recordings.

And yes, as far as I can remember AD was recorded onto analogue, then digitally mixed. I don't have the cd on my person, but on the backcover it bares either the symbols AAD or ADD. AAD meant analogue recording, analogue mixing, digital transfer while ADD was analog recording, digital mixing, and digital transfer. Eitherway, it's an analogue recording!
