Faith No More’s Official Return
From: http://www.fnm.com/news/
Faith No More has always stood out as some sort of unique beast; part dog, part cat–its music almost as schizophrenic as the personalities of its members. When it all worked, it worked really well, even if the chemistry was always volatile. Throughout our 17years of existence, the mental and physical energy required to sustain this creature was considerable and relentless. Though amicable enough, when we finally split, we all followed paths seemingly destined to opposite ends of the universe.
Yet during the entire 10 years that have passed since our decision to break up we’ve experienced constant rumors and requests from fans and promoters alike. Nevertheless, for whatever reason, none of us kept in regular touch, much less to discuss any possibilities of getting together.
What’s changed is that this year, for the first time, we’ve all decided to sit down together and talk about it. And what we’ve discovered is that time has afforded us enough distance to look back on our years together through a clearer lens and made us realize that through all the hard work, the music still sounds good, and we are beginning to appreciate the fact that we might have actually done something right.
Meanwhile we find ourselves at a moment in time with zero label obligations, still young and strong enough to deliver a kickass set, with enthusiasm to not only revisit our past but possibly add something to the present. And so with this we’ve decided to hold our collective breaths and jump off this cliff….
BACK, GOD FORBID, INTO THE MONKEY CAGE!!!
We can only hope that the experience of playing together again will yield results erratic and unpredictable enough to live up to the legacy of FNM.
Who know where this will end or what it will bring up…only the future knows. But we are about to find out!FAITH NO MORE are:
Mike Bordin, Roddy Bottum, Bill Gould, Jon Hudson and Mike Patton

This year will be the best of my whole lifeeeee!!!
Anybody knows if they are recording some stuff??
February 26th, 2009 at 12:14 AM
I don’t know if this is a good idea, but i’d love to see that show…
February 26th, 2009 at 12:24 AM
Ive always visited this site ever since getting into FNM two years after they broke up. I was only 14 at the time so fnm was certainly before my era. I could not even begin to explain to you the impact this news has had on me. Ive phoned friends, Ive left bulletins, you name it. I couldnt be happier, and I just hope they take this monster to the US. Cheers to all *raises glass*

Sounds like it!
February 26th, 2009 at 6:21 AM
I’m not gonna cry… I’m not gonna cry…
February 26th, 2009 at 6:25 AM
By the way… I love FNM official website! I think they’ve just invented Web 4.0!
February 26th, 2009 at 7:35 AM
recording some stuff?… well maybe but later….
but without Jim Martin????
that’s a shame….
February 26th, 2009 at 8:26 AM
Zek the statement says:
“with enthusiasm to not only revisit our past but possibly add something to the present”
weather that means laying down some tracks or just by playing live who knows?
I’m still walking around in a daze about this!
All the time I wished for it and told everyone else to keep the faith….I mustn’t have believed it myself!!!!
Bring it on!!!! Will get some decent live footage out of all this if nothing else!
February 26th, 2009 at 10:41 AM
Sweet. Zombie. Jesus. This is awesome!
February 26th, 2009 at 12:03 PM
IM FUCKING CRYING!!!
WE HOPE TO SEE THEM ON CHILE…!
February 26th, 2009 at 12:41 PM

February 27th, 2009 at 3:36 AM
I couldn’t be happier! One of my favourite bands will return… Thank You!
I just hope you guys manage to play in Portugal this year, because I’d be so there, whatever it takes!
Paredes de Coura, Vilar de Mouros or Super Bock-Super Rock are some of the summer festivals you could be in. Or, better yet, at your own concert in Porto! Pleeeeeaaseee…
February 27th, 2009 at 4:27 AM
Why is Hudson a downpoint? AOTY is a cracking album – Jim Martin wasnt in the band for the last 2 albums and to me they hold up just as well as Angel Dust! I wasnt expecting him to be in the lineup anyway. Having the most recent guitarist suggests that they may be serious about carrying on from where they left off.
By the way this is the best fucking news ever!!!
February 27th, 2009 at 9:16 AM
Hello everyone:
Shit!, it´s been a while since the last time i was here, nothing has changed alot around here, well, except for the reason that we all know now; this guys are gonna come back when none of us believed that they would. Damn sure nobody saw this coming!!
I really apreciate Gould´s words, u can notice the enthusiasm from the whole band (at least i hope) reflected in this statement, am positive that the time has changed alot of things in their minds, basically it is never too late to find common horizonts through the years. I never understood why Patton was so negative about an eventual reunion, but i guess that a global perspective it´s a lot more relevant than a single person´s vanity.
Anyway, the fact of the matter is that Gould is telling us all that the old feelings, emotions and all that special stuff around the band on the 90´s IT´S COMING BACK, and nothing makes me more happy about it……. maybe massive tours, maybe new records……bring it up right on!! we will be waiting…
PD: Hudson it´s a great musician, not of my taste as Spruance on KFAD, but i like his part on the band……
Thanks for this, and come to my country again so i can finally die in peace later….
Welcome back FNM!!!, it was about fucking time already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 27th, 2009 at 1:34 PM
I’d like to see Chuck Mosley do a few numbers with the band for this reunion. His album will be out this summer on Reversed Image Unlimited, around the same time as the tour. I think it would be great for the band and Chuck to play some stuff off the first two albums for the fans. Fans of post-Chuck FNM will be surprised at what he’s been up to since being in the band. Check out http://www.chuckmosley.com for more info, and hear a song off the new album at http://www.myspace.com/chuckmosleyvua!
February 27th, 2009 at 1:35 PM
I think having Chuck Mosley as a guest to do some classic material with the band would be great. Chuck is releasing a new record this summer on Reversed Image Unlimited. Find out more info at http://www.chuckmosley.com, and hear a new track off the upcoming album at http://www.myspace.com/chuckmosleyvua!
February 27th, 2009 at 3:33 PM
I think I just made a poopoo.
February 27th, 2009 at 10:15 PM
Chuck has PR apparently! WHO KNEW?
February 28th, 2009 at 1:13 AM
This is probably going to sound really wrong so apologies (excuse – just back from my stag night and still wearing flying helmet and biggles moustache – thanks bro!) ahem – anyway I’m glad the reunion isnt including chuck and jim martin – the only reason I can see that Patton would be interested is that a) his record label is in trouble and he needs cash or
b) [more likely] with the band as it was at the end there is a massive chance that they will move forwards and produce music that he might be interested in singing on top of – like the shark bands have to move on otherwise they stagnate and die.
no way am I slagging off Jim and Chuck’s contribution but I want Faith No More back as a band rather than one last greatest hits act. I have seen them twice and met them in Belfast both times after the gig and it’s still not enough – I want my favourite band pissing over the music scene once again and drunken rambles aside I reckon this is the line-up to do that…
Welcome back Faith No More!!!!!!!
February 28th, 2009 at 1:20 AM
ps I love Anthrax too and the worst move they ever made momentum-wise was touring with Joey Belladonna – sometimes band members leave for a reason! One great nostalgia trip then welcome to Ilovethe80′sville – although Chuck supporting them and joining them onstage for a few tunes is a plan that I reckon would tick all the boxes for me
February 28th, 2009 at 3:48 AM
AWESOME ! ! ! AWESOME ! ! ! AWESOME ! ! ! AWESOME ! ! ! AWESOME ! ! ! AWESOME ! ! ! AWESOME ! ! ! AWESOME ! ! !
February 28th, 2009 at 6:51 AM
YEAAAAAAAH!!! I thought this day would never come!!!!!!!!
I hope they come to Argentina!
February 28th, 2009 at 10:30 AM
Why is Jim Martin the focus of conversation here?
Just to be clear, he was pretty much kicked out of the band just after “Angel Dust” (which, by the way, he had little input on).
Angel Dust was a major departure from FNM’s initial sound (the reason they’re considered a dynamic band).
For the most part, their finest and most influential material had nothing to do with Jim Martin. Anyone who writes that Martin’s absence is an upset or a deal breaker exposes themselves as naive and was never a fan of FNM’s entire, unbelievable, body of work. These individuals only prove to others that they are merely eager to go about interjecting their opinion- regardless of their extremely limited knowledge.
To those fans who believe “The Real Thing” was FNM’s last good album, I offer you the following thought. You are no different than fans left in the dust by Sgt. Pepper’s, crying to hear “I Want to Hold Your Hand” at shows (yeah, I just compared FNM to The Beatles).
Fortunately, Jon Hudson will be on guitar for the reunion. Their finest live guitarist, hands down.
AND, the Chuck Mosley idea raised here is simply brain dead. Have him perform some “classic material?” While we’re at it, maybe Courtney Love should join the reunion- make this the ultimate freak show.
February 28th, 2009 at 2:16 PM
Tears of joy.tears of joy.
February 28th, 2009 at 5:17 PM
This is indeed great news. My favorite band of all time is back! Would love to see them tour US if not I’ll probably have to make a euro trip to see them.
March 1st, 2009 at 11:50 AM
Like everyone, I can’t express how surprised and baffled I was at this news! Just wondering if anyone else has what are ultimately ‘confused’ feelings about this? Just to give me quick FNM bio here – I’ve been a fan since a kid and grew up with the band (so to speak) and was a regular on the old fnm newsgroup, good old CV, bunglefever and all the rest. So I went through the whole ‘can’t believe my fav band have split’ period with everyone else at the time. But I feel I have musically matured by a massive amount since then, and I have always understood and appreciated Patton’s perspective on the whole reform issue – i.e. let sleeping dogs lie, they only would taint their legacy from that point on, and that there’s plenty of different music to focus on. As time went on, a reunion seemed increasingly less likely and I want wanted less and less. For me, FNM managed to hold their integrity and taught us how important it is for music to be relevant and made for the right reasons. In a commercial climate of music that is made for all the wrong reasons, FNM held that fine line of popularity vs ‘selling out’. For instance, all the stage antics and piss-take covers seemed to add to the appreciation of a hardcore fan, not less the dynamic range of genre and style fused in each album. So what happens now? Patton warned of parading dinosaurs and all the usual reunion cliches, but I am not sure what the other members had said about the idea since the split. So whilst being happy about this and I am worried about how this integrity is handled. The saving grace, I think, is that I always think of FNM as being amazingly serious about not being serious and this will be the key to recapturing that magic. I hope that when they met about this (as mentioned in the statement) that they really were all on the same page and we don’t suffer cringe-worthy stuff that will make any big, long-time FNM fan feel embarrassed. As I said, they will have to be as musically relevant now as they were before, and be doing it for more that just the $$$$.
March 1st, 2009 at 1:13 PM
anyone knows a calendar with dates/locations for this tour?
March 1st, 2009 at 2:17 PM
finally, one of the best moment’s. im looking forward to see them
March 1st, 2009 at 3:01 PM
FAITH NO MORE will play at Hurricane/ Southside, Germany!!! just bought the ticket!!!!
March 1st, 2009 at 5:53 PM
Bister Mungle, you speak wisely!
I too (being a fan since 92) have had very mixed thoughts about this, and felt throughout that although i missed the band, it was still for the better that they split up. Like Patton once said “our next record would have been piece of shit”…So now I am just hoping that they will not embarrass themselves and the rest of us, but have something to offer other than a trip down nostalgia blvd. Like Bister Mungle said, one of the things to really love about that band, besides the music, was their attitude and sense of humour (or UNseriousness if you will) including their reluctance towards the whole Rock Star circus, and how is that going to fit in now. Well i guess we will just have to wait and see…It has the potential to be either grand or horrible, but I believe (hope)that what ever happens, it’s not gonna take anything away from the amazing things they did in round one.
March 1st, 2009 at 9:42 PM
Guys, I’m totally NOT negating what you say, as I too have some small doubts about what they will produce, but I think the key lies in what Bill Gould said about “zero label obligations” which means they can actually work at their own pace…maybe they’ve even worked on it long before this announcement.
I have faith in Faith No More.
That was a really stupid way to end my post.
March 1st, 2009 at 11:49 PM
My housie told me and i was just in denial, not letting myself get excited. “no they’re not, no way, i don’t believe you”…..couldn’t help but be overwhelmed though….tears and shakes as i ran to the computer…..for a fan that got into them the year that they split up, well one of my greatest wishes has come true. They have been my favourite band for 12 years and I never thought that i would see them live. I always hoped though! I can’t believe they are back!! So fuckin pumped!
March 1st, 2009 at 11:53 PM
Oh…and i hope they come to Australia…..otherwise im gonna have to make some cash damn quickly!
March 2nd, 2009 at 3:39 AM
Bister Mungle I understand you. I’m also so fucking afraid that it
won’t work. But I’m also so fucking happy they’r e back. I feel like
girl who came back to biggest love of her life and is scared but also extremly happy and excited.
Anyone knows any calendar dates for this tour? I would be very gratefull.
March 2nd, 2009 at 5:16 AM
If the spirit of the reunion announcement is actually the spirit of the band, and they live up to it when on stage, i think everything will be just fine!
“maybe they’ve even worked on it long before this announcement”
- I thought about that too, or at least was a bit puzzled when they wrote “this year, for the first time, we’ve all decided to sit down together and talk about it” – What year? that would have to be 2008 i guess, which means it COULD have been in the works for quite some time. Oh well… speculations, i know.
March 2nd, 2009 at 11:43 AM
I only wish Jim was back!!
Well, it proves dreams do come true!
I can’t believe i’ve found this website again after all these years!!
March 2nd, 2009 at 2:32 PM
oooohhyeahhhhh! WHEN? WHEEEEEERE??????????
March 2nd, 2009 at 9:31 PM
Hi, and i would just like to add that you can find Billy Gould on Twitter as “MRGOULD” and he is updating FNM’s progress.
March 2nd, 2009 at 10:42 PM
TT is write….Martin shmartin, mosely shmosely. neither of these guys were the brains behind FNM…more like they added to it when it was already made…case in point jim fartin on angel dust. power cords solos and rapping aint what the band was about
March 3rd, 2009 at 12:21 AM
if you missed the twitter comments they are playing the download festival this year.

GAH no US dates??
I am poor, what is a girl to do???
March 3rd, 2009 at 7:11 PM
Now if only Mr. Bungle will re-unite, all will be right in the world. If FNM can do it, Bungle better be next in line, damnit.
March 3rd, 2009 at 9:40 PM
Europe is a worse recession than the U.S. (according to the talking heads) so why European shows?
I will rejoice when I see west coast USA shows!!!!
March 3rd, 2009 at 10:44 PM
I wondered why we had not heard any new material from Patton recently…other than the Zorn stuff he’s been in. I’ve heard from a lot of artists that there are some real bad things happening in the music industry. It must be bad for Patton to contemplate putting his ‘When hell freezes over’ comments in the dust bin. But Patton said the reason for the breakup was that they had nothing left. He never questioned the work ethic of the FNM players the way he did Bungle, so maybe they found a spark. The one thing I’ve learned from Patton over the years is that he doesn’t do things for money alone, and he doesn’t do things just to be doing things. Yet, he also said that someone always comes up to him with a truck full of money to get him back in FNM.
March 4th, 2009 at 6:07 AM
It’s fairly well recognised that Faith No More were a lot bigger in Europe than in the US – no slur on any Americans but their fanbase over there dropped considerably from Angel Dust onwards. They’re still really only known for Epic and We care a Lot. However they were still getting high sales for their later albums in Europe when the US started ignoring them.
As per their Wiki entry – “1995′s King for a Day… Fool for a Lifetime was a less experimental album, nevertheless varying in styles and moods from heavy and slow to jazzy. In the U.S., the album failed to get any sort of mainstream following, slipping out of the charts quickly. ….. The record did manage to go Gold in some countries like the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Netherlands and Germany, which gave the album a respectable sales figure of around 1.5 million copies.
Album of the Year was released in 1997 and featured yet another new guitarist, Jon Hudson, who was a former roommate of Billy Gould. The album debuted much higher than expected in some countries (for example, in Germany, the album debuted at #2 and stayed in the chart for 5 months). In Australia, Album of the Year went to #1 and was certified Platinum. The album charted in many countries in Europe. To date Album of the Year has sold around 1.5 million copies worldwide.
One of the British rock magazines described the news of their tour as being like “the second coming of Jesus” – doubt if they’d have got that kind of press in the States – although with a successful European tour under their belt (where demand to see them will still be high) would make a US one more likely
Anyway that’s my tuppence worth.
March 4th, 2009 at 7:01 AM
This is just great!
I’ve been an fnm fan during their active years and ever since they broke up! Never manged to watch a gig though! Now they give me a fat chance! Any idea of where in Europe they’ll play?
Hope they will be able to come to Bulgaria!
March 4th, 2009 at 10:03 AM
Regardless of whether or not Chuck will be involved in any part of this reunion, his album will be released this summer around the same time as the tour. Great timing, however unintentional. The musicality and diversity found on his upcoming album is vast, and I think many people will be surprised if not shocked with how stellar this album will be. Even folks who weren’t a fan of Chuck in FNM dig the new song so far.
March 4th, 2009 at 4:42 PM
Chuck Mosley fucking rules man. I cant wait for his new album… I think if i saw him appear in the FNM reunion singing his classic songs, id cry like a bitch. Mosley is a truly unique vocalist. I think that their debut album We Care A Lot is one of the band’s best albums to this day. Its up there with KFAD, and Angel Dust for me.
No offense to Hudson and all, the guy Is a great guitarist but i wish Big Jim was on guitars for this reunion. He’s the guitarist fans from the beginning remember most and associate with Faith No More. He was perfect for the band. They should tell that chickenfucker to drop the pumpkin growing shit and to pick up his axe!
March 4th, 2009 at 4:47 PM
Glad to hear others are on my wave length. I just won’t automatically say great to this until further down the line. I’m still very excited as it sinks in. I had also wondered what Patton had been up to (as he is easily the most productive). Bungle is no go in my eyes, Mike and Trey have crossed wires at some point and there seems no going back. I wonder what it was? I thin the Peeping Tom song might be about him! Not looking forwward to fact the only UK gig is download – this just doesn’t seem appropriate. And I especially don’t want to see them churn out a greatest hits tour and leave it at that, just for the dough.
March 4th, 2009 at 4:52 PM
Also – not for Jim in the band. FNM’s maturity into the much, much superior Angel Dust and KFAD is the reason he left – he did not fit in with it. He was good at what was done, but leave it at that. I am a big Chuck fan though! Doubt he would actually end up in the same room as the rest of the guys, but it is uncanny timing and am looking forward to the album. Chuck supporting? Why noy.
March 4th, 2009 at 5:53 PM
Oh god… there’s always that fear when a band reunites. I pray that FNM show their true colors with this reunion and leave their fans satisfied. I hope its not just a money making scheme. Honestly id be crushed if they just played the huge songs. Also i hope that Patton doesn’t overpower everyone else and make FNM sound like one of his side-projects. That must not happen.
i hear what you’re saying about Jim. i do. The band did evolve into something different and very avant-garde. but don’t forget that Jim alone wrote the guitar parts for jizzlober. that shows that he had it in him for much more. If the band were on better terms back then i bet Jim would evolve with FNM instead of being stubborn and sticking to his thrashy heavy metal roots. hes got the skills, that’s for sure.
best wishes for this reunion. I love this band and always have.. its fucking MONUMENTAL news!!! cant remember the last time i was so excited!.. totally feels surreal.
March 4th, 2009 at 6:13 PM
err.. that 2nd last post should say: I think the Peeping Tom song ‘Don’t Even Trip’ is about Trey. Just putting it out there….
Agree on Jim feminist deepthroater (is that an oxymoron?), I suppose I think having Jim is looking backward, but there would be potential. I just don’t think the other guys get on with him and that hasn’t changed. Good point on Patton, hope he keeps his head on. It would be even more odd if he brands it ‘just another side project’. It will also be very strange to see Mike without all his gizmos and keyboard infront of him. Will he try and introduce these kind of things ala Tomahawk? Or will he be free to climb ralings and whip band members with mic cables?!
March 5th, 2009 at 7:41 AM
“Or will he be free to climb ralings and whip band members with mic cables?!”
Ahhh that takes me back to seeing him scale the railings in the Ulster Hall in Belfast on the Real Thing tour. Fuck I love Woodpeckers from Mars – best metal instrumental ever!!
Anyway – cant believe they’re only playing Download in the UK!!
March 5th, 2009 at 9:19 AM
I reckon skip download and make a wee euro trip to another festival – maybe there’s a cheaper one than £140 for download? Any other dates announced?
March 5th, 2009 at 12:16 PM
You might be right there – depends where else they’re playing though
March 5th, 2009 at 12:23 PM

March 5th, 2009 at 5:18 PM
Wow …first FNM…and now Michael Jackson.
Must be a sign of end times.
Prepare the liferaft!
Smiles. Bruises!
March 6th, 2009 at 5:37 AM
holy shit!!!. i ran across something totally fucking weird and highly bizarre the other day!!! Did you guys know that both Mike Patton and Chuck Mosley share the same birth date? Both are born on January 27th!
Astrology wise, there must be a lot in common between the two. I highly doubt that faith no more chose these singers based on this fact .. They just undoubtedly saw something in both vocalists that was needed for their band. I hear the resemblance in their voices. My older brother cant even hear the difference sometimes! he’s a casual fnm fan.
the shared birth date also works great to shut Patton fan boys up. Its too much of a coincidence to just brush off.
March 6th, 2009 at 9:28 AM
That is an amazing coincidence! But no offense, you are not going to shut anybody up about anything with a birthdate (unless it is a debate about someone’s date of birth).
March 6th, 2009 at 10:44 AM
Did u know that Jim Martin, Dean Menta, Trey Spruance & Jon Hudson smoked the same brand of cigarettes and were all right-handed?
OOOOOOHHHH! Spooky!
For an intro tune Bister Mungle, how about ‘Introduce Yourself’?
March 6th, 2009 at 3:27 PM
oh my friend bister mungle, i have already shut up quite a few with this finding. I shut this fanboy up at work just today.
. In person, im an intimidating guy and i get really mad when patton fanboys disrespect Mosley. It boils my blood like nothing else.
OK jack. lol.. compare a fictional ciggarette story to astrology, a science the mayans used to predict universal events with disturbing presision.
you are one dumb fucker.
March 7th, 2009 at 1:52 AM
End times!
March 7th, 2009 at 5:06 AM
atkATK!, you may be onto something! at least after the reunion concert, we can die happily.
chuck and patton have the same birthday?hahaha wtf?!?!?!? that’s awesome!!! first time i ever hear this!
March 7th, 2009 at 11:26 PM
What are the chances of Serj Tankian joining FNM on stage for a performance of Bird’s Eye?
March 8th, 2009 at 1:29 PM
Ha ha ha!
I wonder if the Mayans managed to spell with disturbing ‘presision’ as well.
And you call me a dumb fucker into the bargain Miss new age healing crystals hippy space bollocks!
Are you now going to put a curse on me or something?
Did the Mayans see FNM re-forming?
March 8th, 2009 at 10:48 PM
I expect a new album after the tour too
March 9th, 2009 at 4:05 PM
Awesome News! I’m actually more worried about Patton than Jim Martin. If Pattons recent vocals and lyrics are any indication he might have a Faith No More song left. He’s undeniabely talented, but most of his hip hop stuff has been pure cheese. Fantomas and Tomahawk are okay. There a couple songs I like from Lovage and Peeping Tom, but I’m really hoping that his approach to Faith No More will be a little more conventional than his recent albums. His second solo project just sounded to me like an album of listening to Patton eat dinner.
About Jim Martin- the guy may not be the best guitarist in the world, but his solos were always amazing. There was a beauty to the way Jim Martin played, and he had one of the best Metal tones I’ve ever heard in a guitarist. That being said he plays best in his comfort zone. That was a zone that was breached on Angel Dust. From then on the band moved beyond where he wanted to go. For this reason Hudson is a better choice. I don’t think Hudson is as creative in the studio as Martin (It’s really not even close) however, Hudson is the far better live guitarist, and he allows FNM to explore their entire catalog with ease.
The only way you bring in Jim Martin is as a guest performer for a few older songs (maybe with Chuck Mosely?) Otherwise, Hudson has to be the man. I can’t imagine Jim trying to play Cuckoo For Caca! He’d be a big distraction.
At any rate this is great news. I hope they come to San Fran soon!
March 9th, 2009 at 5:52 PM
actually Martin sounded better then Hudson, I think Hudson sounded too commercial
Even if Martin didn’t write or worked on any song on the Angel Dust album except Jizzlobber he sounded perfect for the album.
March 10th, 2009 at 8:51 AM
Jim was great but its an irrelevant discussion – Jim left at the end of 93 and the band that we know and love as Faith No More has been a band with out him since then. And that is the band that have gotten back together – the Album of the Year FNM.
